Buy a brand new home and save up to £20,000
Househunters in the West Midlands could save up to £20,000 if they choose a new build property rather than a second hand home, according to national housebuilder Crest Nicholson.
Latest statistics reveal that renovation costs on an older two bedroom property can increase the original asking price by up to £20,000 and this figure could rise even further when the cost of labour is added.
According to Which? the average spend on a new kitchen is £8,000 and with added extras such as a dishwasher, prices could reach in excess of £10,000. The standard cost of a new bathroom currently stands at around £3,000 and if any windows need replacing prices vary from £4,000 to £14,000 depending on standard or premium designs and non-standard items such as French doors.
Ruth Williams, sales manager at Crest Nicholson Regeneration’s Park Central development in Birmingham city centre said: “Purchasing a new build property can act like a security blanket for many new homeowners. Technology and building materials are constantly being improved which means a house that has been built in 2013 will be much more energy efficient that one built ten or even five years ago. Statistically, new build homes are four times more energy efficient than an older house, meaning you could save a significant sum on your electricity and gas bills.
