Tallinn - A cultural escape that won't break the bank

8th May 2013 Print

Taking a short break to immerse yourself in a cultural destination doesn't mean you have to break the bank. Recent research by the Post Office listed the spectacular city of Tallinn as a 'best value for money' destination.

The beautiful Old Town, a UNESCO world heritage site, is accessible by foot, so you can explore the old shops and amazing views of the city and the Baltic Sea. With direct low cost flights from the UK to Tallinn, as soon as your plane lands you are only 15 minutes away from exploring its many attractions.

Admire the breathtaking interior of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, wander peacefully through Kadriorg Park and marvel at the craftsmanship involved in creating marzipan masterpieces in the Tallinn Town Hall Pharmacy. With so much to do, Tallinn is the perfect destination for those looking for an alternative city break to suit any budget.

Where to stay?

The four star Hotel Euroopa has spacious rooms, from €65 per night, providing comfortable accommodation for families and couples, and spectacular views of the city and the famous sea harbour.

Where to eat?

Grab lunch on the go with a traditional black bread sandwich with Baltic sprat, cheese and poached egg.  In the evening, savour local cuisine at Leib restaurant. Dine on hearty main dishes from as little as €9, including Pan Fried Pike Perch and Smoked Ham Hock with roasted garlic-celeriac cream and marinated beetroot, allowing you to experience the great taste of Estonia and still afford a dessert.

What to see?

You can easily explore the Old Town on foot. Go window shopping on Pikk Street, before climbing to the top of the 234 step tower in St. Olav's Church for a great view of the city. Alternatively, spend a little and visit the Kumu Art Museum, which acts as the home for the Estonian National Gallery and the Centre for Contemporary Art. It costs €5.50 for adults and €3.20 for concessions to view all the exhibitions. Located in the heart of Kadriorg Park, and surrounded by several other cultural museums, it's the perfect place to immerse yourself in the local culture and history.

Latest deal is offering 2 nights in the Hotel Euroopa and direct return flights from London Gatwick for 2 people for just £299 per person based on two people sharing, including breakfast. Flights depart on May 24th and return May 26th. For more information or to book, visit
