Santa Pod presents The Main Event - Fun doesn’t get any faster

On the weekend of the 24th to 27th May Santa Pod will be throwing open its doors to one of the most prestigious events of the year; the FIA European Drag Racing Championships, which includes the FIM Europe Drag Bikes. Assembling the fastest, loudest and most insane race machinery from all across Europe – on two and four wheels – The FIA Main Event is Drag Racing in its pure and most undiluted form.
Real quarter mile aficionados will delight in the sight and sound of the laws of physics being battered into submission by the greatest exponents of the art, but the day is firmly aimed at families too, with a plethora of attractions and activities to delight enthusiasts of all ages. This hugely popular, televised extravaganza is the 1st round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship and features over 200 teams and 17 classes of cars and bikes including the sports F1 class – 8000bhp Top Fuel Dragsters accelerating 0-100mph in less than 1 second, making this event unrivalled for both the quality and quantity of racing. If you’re looking to dip your toe into the sport of drag racing for the first time as a spectator, The Main Event is unique in terms of track action, paddock access and sheer showmanship, so make a date in your diaries now!
All car and bike classes are comprehensively represented, meaning that the newly resurfaced strip will reverberate to the sound of the world’s most powerful race cars and bikes all weekend, but around the site, there are numerous other activities to keep everyone entertained. The insane Jet-Car literally firing up the strip is always an impressive spectacle, as is the might Swamp Thing monster truck, laying waste to any car unfortunate enough to be parked before it. Stunt legends Terry Grant and Zoltan Angyal will also be vying for the crowd’s appreciation in the Live Action Arena, making their cars and bikes perform all kind of seemingly impossible manoeuvres. The Jet Karts make an appearance this year too, and as their name suggests.. they don’t hang about!
It’s not all happening on the ground however, Peter Teichman will be performing an aerobatic display in his North American P51 Mustang “Jumpin’ Jacques” on the Sunday and the The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be making a fly past with a Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire on both Saturday & Sunday and a Dakota on the Monday. A wonderful tribute to the brave pilots of WWII.
Fancy blasting down the quarter mile yourself? Book quickly and you might be able to grab one of the few passenger rides in the UK’s only 2-seater dragster – firing up the hallowed tarmac in a shade over 7 seconds. Or if you’d rather be torturing metal, strap yourself into a Monster Truck ride and go and crush some cars!
For those enjoying the free camping over the weekend, you can expect superb evening entertainment in Fuelers Bar with Live Bands Leech on Saturday and Blue Renegades on Sunday evening. Children are equally well catered for with numerous areas dedicated to Kid's Entertainment, including an area with face painting and ceramic workshops, kid’s entertainers and Circus Whiz interactive circus skills workshops on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday. If that wasn’t enough, a Radio Controlled Car track, Side Shows, Traders, Fun Fair and full catering & bar facilities all weekend should keep the rest of the family smiling and entertained for the entire weekend.
