Heritage Motor Centre launches programme of lectures & workshops

The Heritage Motor Centre is launching a series of historical transport related lectures and workshops throughout 2013. Following customer feedback and recent focus group work, the centre has appointed a Family and Life Long Learning Officer, Emma Rawlinson, tasked with developing a program of informal learning opportunities for both adults and children, centred around the Museums collection.

The first Lecture on Saturday 13 July at 2pm draws from the Museums “Morris the Man” Exhibition which runs until the 1 September. Entitled “Morris the Man and Nuffield Place” with speaker Richard Henderson. Richard is the Property Manager at Nuffield Place the former home of William Morris, acquired by the National Trust in 2011.

Richard will talk about William Morris and Nuffield Place. Morris believed in hard work and giving his wealth to those less fortunate than himself, despite his status as industrialist and philanthropist he made little provision for his own legacy. The National Trust is now trying to put this right.

The second lecture takes place on Saturday 20 July entitled “The History of Jaguar“ with speaker Anders Clausager, Jaguar Historian and Consultant. The next subject matter is “The Le Mans Days – Jaguar” which takes place on Saturday 17 August with speaker Peter Leake, former Jaguar Dealer Training Manager. Peter will talk about the early days of motor racing with the SS models and the dream of one day competing with the best at the 24 Hours Race at Le Mans when it became a reality in 1950.

Emma Rawlinson, Family and Lifelong Learning Officer at the Heritage Motor Centre stated “We’re delighted to launch these series of lectures and workshops which cover a wide range of interesting subject matters. As well as a number of motor related topics, we will also cover the history of the railways and RAF Gaydon. Booking the lectures in advance is advisable to secure a place. The cost is £5 per person for the lecture only or £14 for day entry into the Museum including the lecture. Each lecture lasts approximately one hour. Seats may be available on the day subject to availability.
