Construction is more than 60 per cent complete at national housebuilder Crest Nicholson Regeneration’s latest £15 million phase at Park Central in Birmingham city centre.

Named Central Plaza, the latest phase will deliver 132 new one and two bedroom apartments spread across two residential buildings at the heart of the development, and will sit over a 139 space undercroft car park.

Now ten months into the build programme, the structure of both buildings are visibly complete and work is on-going inside the individual apartments to add fixtures and fittings, including the first bathrooms and kitchens.

Crest Nicholson is delivering this central phase in partnership with Birmingham City Council and Crest’s development partner Optima Community Association, with the first homes on the development due to be delivered this autumn (2013).

Crest Nicholson has released information on the progress of its latest Central Plaza phase as the Construction Industrial Training Board (CITB) revealed figures suggesting that the West Midlands construction sector is facing “a glacial depression”, with over 12,500 skilled workers out of a job in the region as many developments are currently stalled.

Pete Bayliss, senior project manager at Park Central said: “Multi-million pound schemes such as Central Plaza reinforce the message that construction is still very much underway on successful projects in the region.

“The Central Plaza buildings represent the most exciting phase at Park Central to date, not only because of its elevated position overlooking the attractive public parkland at the heart of the development, but because of its contemporary façade, which covers both buildings, and will reflect bronze to green depending on the sun’s position.

“The concrete structure of both buildings is now complete and the windows and insulation panels are already being installed. We’re all eagerly awaiting the show-stopping cladding to be attached to the exterior of the buildings, which we’re excited to watch unfold before our eyes.”

The homes at Central Plaza are currently available to buy from plan, with prices starting from as little as £117,000 for a spacious one bedroom apartment and from £158,000 for a two bedroom apartment. A range of schemes, including the Government’s new equity loan scheme Help to Buy are available on the properties, designed to help first time buyers struggling to save a large deposit to own their own home.

Designed with high quality fixtures and fittings including designer kitchens and contemporary Roca bathrooms with Porcelanosa tiling, the new luxury apartments are already proving popular, with over 50 per cent of the apartments initially released for sale sold off-plan in just six weeks. The award-winning developer has now made more properties available at Central Plaza in order to meet the growing demand.

Park Central has transformed the former Lee Bank Middleway area which was once a notorious hot spot for crime and poor social behaviour. Crest Nicholson has since built in excess of 1,100 homes at Park Central, including both townhouses and luxury apartments.
