How to organise a top night out in the capital this summer

28th May 2013 Print

London is a fantastic city for a night out. If you’re planning on visiting the capital and are bereft of inspiration however, we’ve got a few of valuable pointers for you on how to organise a top night out in London this summer.

Finding a place to stay

Before you even begin to think about planning a night out in London, it’s imperative that you find the right place to stay. While the tube and bus network are comprehensive, it’s best to pick a central location, relative to where you intend to go out, otherwise you’ll end up spending a disproportionate amount of time travelling, when you could be out enjoying yourself.

Various websites offer discounted accommodation in the capital, but the savviest visitors to London are renting rooms through websites such as AirBnB. The website allows you to search for available rooms, apartments or even houses, by postcode, making the process of planning much easier, while the site’s competitive rates ensure that you can often stay in luxurious settings for the same price as a budget hotel.

Grab a bite to eat

With your accommodation sorted, a night on the town in London is certain to involve eating out in an exceptional restaurant. If you’re planning on seeing a show, a quick Google search will bring up hundreds of results for restaurants offering pre-show, discounted menus.

If you’re looking for something a little special there are many hidden gems in London, if you just know where to look. If your show ends early, consider one of the capital’s late night restaurants, such as the Duck & Waffle. Situated on the 40th floor of the Heron building, the Duck & Waffle’s food is exceptional and not exorbitantly priced, while a window seat which overlooks Tower Bridge makes it an unforgettable dining experience.

Take in a show

A top night out in London has to include taking in a show, and the capital has so much choice that it’s difficult to know where to begin.

Music fans might like to purchase Paloma Faith tickets to witness her biggest headline gig to date, at the O2 Arena on Friday 7 June, while those in search of something a little different may enjoy seeing the spectacular acrobatic performances of Cirque du Soleil. Performing one of their most popular productions, Alegria, from the 18 to 21 July at the O2, Cirque du Soleil tickets are always popular, so booking in advance is an absolute must.

After the show

With a majority of shows done and dusted by around 10.30pm, the night is very much still young in Britain’s most vibrant and energetic city.

If there’s time, a visit to one of London’s popular cocktail bars is a great way to end the evening. The London Cocktail Club, with bars on Shaftesbury Avenue and in Goodge Street, are the very places to enjoy some gastro cocktails - their bacon and egg cocktails are certainly unforgettable tipples!

In search of the after-party

With many of London’s most popular cocktail bars closing at around midnight, the city’s clubs are only just getting started. If you’re looking for a truly memorable night, why not try Fabric in Farringdon? Their infamous On & On parties, held on selected Saturday nights, begin at 10pm on Saturday and end 6am on Monday!
