Developer brings new homes and investment to Canley, Coventry

Leading local housebuilder Taylor Wimpey Midlands is set to deliver new high-quality homes and investment to Coventry after completing the purchase of a development site in the Canley area of the city.

The developer has finalised a deal with Coventry City Council to acquire the former Sir Henry Parkes Primary School site, located off the A45 Fletchampstead Highway, for a new residential development of 211 high-quality two, three and four-bedroom homes, including 42 affordable properties.

The site has detailed planning permission for the development, which will be known as White Willow Park, and Taylor Wimpey is getting ready to start work on site in July.

Roger Northam, Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey Midlands, says: “We’re delighted to have completed the acquisition of this prestigious development site, particularly as we faced some serious competition from other major housebuilders to deliver such an exciting project in partnership with Coventry City Council.

“As well as building much-needed new homes – including affordable housing – our development will bring many additional benefits to the local area, including new employment opportunities as the build progresses.”

The new Taylor Wimpey development will form part of a wider regeneration masterplan which is seeing new homes, public facilities and infrastructure being delivered to the Canley community.

It follows the completion of the new Charter Primary School and Xcel Sports Centre, while work is due to begin soon on the new Forrest Medical Centre next to the Taylor Wimpey development site.

The money raised by Coventry City Council through the sale of the land for new homes will go towards improving local parkland as well as providing new paving in front of shops in the area. This work will begin in the autumn and will be coordinated with the street lighting improvements which will be led by Balfour Beatty.

Councillor Lynnette Kelly, Coventry City Council’s Cabinet Member for City Development, added: “I am delighted that work is about to start on this large and prominent site. It’s great news for the city – as it shows that developers believe that it’s worth building new homes here. It’s great news for Canley too because it means we can now honour the commitment we made to local people and can make improvements to the park.

“We will also be working with Taylor Wimpey to see if we can make some of the construction jobs and training opportunities available to local people.“
