6th July 2013 Print

Leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey North Thames is investing more than £1.1 million in local community facilities and infrastructure as it prepares to launch a brand new phase of high-quality homes in Borehamwood.

The developer has already contributed nearly £450,000 towards amenities such as childcare and nurseries, primary schools, sustainable transport, public open space, footpaths and cycle links, youth facilities and libraries as part of its sold-out Oaktrees development, off Elstree Way.

Taylor Wimpey will also be providing in excess of £660,000 to local authorities through a Section 106 agreement after planning approval was granted for a new collection of homes adjacent to the Oaktrees site.

The contributions to be made in association with the new Gemini Park development will include more than £140,000 towards primary and secondary school education, £75,000 for local highways improvements, more than £34,000 for allotments, and almost £100,000 towards public open space and playing fields.

In addition, more than a third of the new homes to be built at Gemini Park will be designated as affordable housing, for allocation by a local housing association.

Bill Beyzade, Land and Planning Director of Taylor Wimpey North Thames, says: “Every single new home we build at Taylor Wimpey is part of a community, and we are committed to ensuring our exciting new Gemini Park development in Borehamwood offers much more than just high-quality properties for local people.

“We are delighted to confirm our investment of more than £660,000, which in combination with the £450,000 we have already contributed through our Oaktrees development, will help to improve public facilities and infrastructure for the benefit of the whole community.”

Gemini Park is being built on the former Oaklands College site close to Borehamwood town centre and just a stone’s throw from Elstree Studios.

The development will comprise 113 private one, two and three-bedroom apartments and 59 affordable homes, and following demolition of the existing buildings on site, construction work is due to start in the summer.

Ideal for commuters, Gemini Park is conveniently located within easy walking distance of Elstree and Borehamwood railway station for regular services to London St Pancras in less than 25 minutes, and offers excellent access to the M25, M1, A1 and A41 into central London.

The new homes will be situated a short distance from a Tesco supermarket and Borehamwood Shopping Park, which includes Marks & Spencer Simply Food, Next and Boots. Meanwhile, Brent Cross is just nine miles away, with 120 shops to choose from including John Lewis and Fenwick department stores.

Parents will appreciate that there are many schools within close proximity of the development, providing education for children of all ages.
