Finance bosses get together to boost business

Financial directors from some of the East Midlands’ biggest companies have been exchanging ideas in a bid to boost business.

Midlands-based recruitment specialist Macildowie, has been working in partnership with Boots to host Nottingham’s first ever ‘Finance Leadership Academy’.

The aim of the event was to bring together heads of finance from companies including Capital One, Speedo, Boots and Experian, to discuss issues affecting their teams.

They were lead in discussion by event speaker Gordon Barker, who helped them gain insight into how great leadership can increase productivity.

Alex Alcock, Macildowie’s Nottingham manager and event organiser, said: “We really wanted to offer our customers a chance to network and share ideas on the challenges they face. With Boots hosting the event at Lenton House, it was the perfect setting.

“From the feedback we have received, those attending found it very useful, so we will definitely be looking at running the academy again later this year.”

Neil Musgrove, finance director at Experian said: “The Macildowie Finance Leadership Academy was a great opportunity to network with fellow senior finance leaders from some great businesses from across the East Midlands.

“It was a chance to share current operational and leadership challenges and experiences, as well as to get some great insights to take away in thinking about our own development as finance and business leaders.”

Steve Hulme, finance director at Capital One also felt the event provided a great opportunity to network and establish new contacts for future use.

He said: “The leadership presentation and facilitation was thought provoking and enabled an open conversation to develop. Experiences were shared and lots of parallels found between the different businesses as well as opportunities to learn from each other.”
