If time has run away with you and you’re worried that the dream holiday cottage will be long gone, Rare Hideaways, a collection of the finest self-catering holiday properties to be found the length and breadth of Wales (and part of the Welsh Rarebits family), still has some late availability thanks to some cancellations. Here are a few examples…

Glyndwr is a four bedroomed 5-star rated cottage at Boncath in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. The 18th century farm building is one of four cottages that have been beautifully converted and renovated. Glyndwr has its own private garden and a hot tub and is available for a week from the 10th and 17th August; the price has been reduced by £200 to £1800 or £225 pp when fully occupied by eight people.

Plas Rhianfa on the Isle of Anglesey (between Manai Bridge and Beaumaris – keep your cool if you bump into Kate or Will) is a grandiose hotel based on the design of a French Renaissance chateau. There are three cottages in the grounds, with one, two and three bedrooms, and there is good availability from 12 – 31 August. The cottages cost £700 per week (one bedroom), £750 per week (two bedrooms) and £1600 per week (three bedrooms).

Bryn Adda is a large 18th century country house in Dolgellau, North Wales, which has been immaculately re-furbished. It sleeps 14 people in 7 bedrooms and is perfect for two families or a large group of adults. It is available for a week from 16th August at the reduced price of £1700 or just £121 per person when fully-occupied. It is just 7 miles from the sea and perfectly located for exploring Snowdonia National Park by bike or on foot. It also has a games room, sauna and an honesty freezer full of home-reared meats.

Bryn Melyn at Bala, in the Snowdonia National Park is a group of three, 200-year-old traditional, farmhouses which have been completely restored and converted into ideal holiday homes. There are two cottages (one and two bedrooms) and a large farmhouse with 6 bedrooms. The farmhouse is available for a week from 9 August (£2250) and the cottages are available for a week from 16 August (£525 and £695 respectively). The properties are close to the lakeside town of Bala with its wealth of pub, restaurants and activities (including watersports, cycle routes and the Bala Railway).

The Rarebits collection also includes Great Little Places, a collection of smaller hotels, inns and guest houses. Continuing the theme that has proven so successful, Welsh Rarebits launched an online shop in 2012 – gourmetwales.co.uk – to showcase the very best of local artisan food and drink producers.
