Discover Adventure’s most exciting brochure yet includes an array of unique bucket-list expeditions such as cycling from Mount Kilimanjaro to Ngorongoro Crater, from Budapest to Krakow and from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro.

It’s the charity challenge organiser’s 20th anniversary in 2014 which means that this brochure is particularly special, with the Discover Adventure team carefully researching and putting together even more new, unique and thrill-seeking itineraries than ever before.

Ranging from moderate to tough and led by a highly-experienced team, the adventures have been designed to challenge participants but are nevertheless appropriate for beginners who are prepared to train, with Discover Adventure offering thorough support, training plans and training days for all participants. And participants choose whether or not they wish to raise money for a charity of their choice at the same time.

NEW cycling trips for 2014 include…

Cycle from Mount Kilimanjaro to Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania - from £2,099 pp

Kilimanjaro is incredibly popular with trekkers, but what about cyclists? This life-changing 229-mile challenge sees riders cycle the base of Kilimanjaro in Moshi. Participants then move westwards through bush-covered hills and vibrant villages to Ngorongoro Crater National Park, often named the eighth Wonder of the World. Celebrate reaching the finish line with a day’s safari at Ngorongoro, home to an awesome diversity of species including lion, leopard, elephant and rhino. Departing 28 February and 17 October 2014, the trip costs from £2,099 pp (two sharing) and includes nine nights’ accommodation (four nights’ camping and five nights’ hotel), flights (London), transfers, camping equipment (except sleeping bag and sleeping mat), most meals, entry to sites listed in the itinerary, bike hire and Discover Adventure support team.

Cycle through three countries - from Budapest to Krakow - from £899 pp

Tick off three of Eastern Europe’s most alluring countries on this 325-mile cycling trip through Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. Begin in the elegant city of Budapest and head north to cross into Slovakia. Ride past forests, lakes, traditional farming villages and well-preserved medieval buildings that offer a wonderful insight into the history of these fascinating countries. The terrain gets progressively hillier before reaching the slopes of the towering Tatra Mountains, taking cyclists to heights of over 1,000 metres. Continue downhill to Krakow, the cultural capital of Poland. Coastal cycle from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro - from £2,399 pp

This journey, between two famous Brazilian cities, deserves an award for the world’s most scenic coastal cycling trip. Riders can expect to have their breath taken away countless times on this 325-mile adventure alongside lush rainforest-covered mountains, glittering ocean and fishing villages. Visit the Portuguese colonial town of Paraty en route, with its quaint cobbled streets and historic white buildings. The 2014 FIFA World Cup will shine a strong spotlight on this colourful country so it’s a particularly exciting time to visit. Cycle through Laos - from the Mekong valley to Luang Prabang - from £1,699 pp

Take in the diverse landscape of Laos from the saddle of a bike. Cover 285-miles on this ride from the Mekong valley to ancient Luang Prabang, one of the most impressive cities in South-East Asia. Witness spectacular scenery every pedal of the way - dense forests, rugged mountains, green rice paddies, the Mekong River, Buddhist temples, graceful French colonial houses and picturesque hill-tribe villages where the local people still wear traditional dress. Visit the Plain of Jars en route too - a mysterious landscape dotted with ancient burial jars which was heavily bombed during the Vietnam War. This trip includes an unforgettable four-day trek of the Grand Canyon, taking in the sublime landscape of striking colours, fascinating rock formations and numerous waterfalls (great for a dip when the temperatures are soaring). Participants are based at the Havasupai Indian Reservation in the west - away from the main tourist areas of the Grand Canyon - and will then head to Vegas for the two final nights to toast their achievements in appropriate style. Stay in friendly homestays and take in the dramatic flat-topped mountains, waterfalls plunging down cliff-sides, blue pools and lush rainforest. Participants spend the rest of the trip sightseeing in the famous cities of Salvador and Rio de Janeiro. Genuinely get away from it all on this trek through remote Madagascar. Witness diverse scenery every step of the way - from canyons and gorges to bush-covered plains, dense forests, rocky ridges and towering mountains. The route takes walkers through the sandstone rock gorges of Isalo National Park, home to ring-tailed lemurs, before heading east to the valleys and ridges of Andringitra National Park to summit Pic Boby (2658m), Madagascar’s second-highest mountain. Embark on this expedition through Ladakh in North East India, home to Himalayan panoramas of snow-capped peaks, sweeping high-altitude plains dotted with ancient villages and rare wildlife such as the elusive snow leopard. The trek sees participants summit Stok Kangri, one of the ‘easiest’ 6000m peaks in the world because it does not require technical climbing experience – but it does require good physical fitness! The sunrise views following a night-time ascent of Stok Kangri (6153m) are truly magical.
