Land Rover supports 180 Degree Pole to Pole Challenge

This exciting journey is being undertaken by 19-year olds, Rob Gauntlett and James Hooper – two intrepid young explorers who last year became the youngest Britons to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Their new challenge will see them depart on 19 March 2007 when they will ski, sail and cycle their way from Pole to Pole, covering a total of 22,000 miles.
The support team will use the expedition-ready Defender 110 to ensure that Rob and James are fully supported with all their equipment no matter what the environment.
The Land Rover G4 Challenge Defender is kitted out with a WARN electric winch, front and rear lamp guards, raised air intake, front aluminium under body protection, black checker plate protection kit, rear ladder, expedition roof rack and rear tow bar.
For the duration of the expedition Rob and James will be supporting The Prince’s Trust and its charitable ambitions through incorporating their experiences into the national curriculum. Issues they are hoping to focus on include global warming, ethnic diversity and the effects of migration
Nicola Davies, experiential marketing manager for Land Rover commented: “Rob and James are extraordinary people embarking on an immense challenge. This expedition will hopefully inspire other young people to learn more about the issues affecting the planet today and we are thrilled to be a part of their journey. We wish them the best of luck.”
The challenge aims to be entirely carbon neutral and as such, all emissions derived from the vehicle will be offset through Land Rover’s groundbreaking CO2 offset scheme, managed by Climate Care.
