Research from Play England suggests that a lack of dedicated community space hinders children’s outdoor play, with nearly one third of adults (32%) and a fifth of children (20%) questioned saying that more spaces to play within their local community would encourage children to play outside.

However, the research also shows that play fosters community cohesion, with 40% of adults stating that children playing out where they live improves community spirit, and almost half (45%) saying it helps families to get to know each other.
