Time for Tea in Sherborne
A special afternoon Dorset cream tea party is being held to officially open the new Redcliffe Homes development at Sherborne House Gardens on Friday 13 September, raising funds for the Friends of the Yeatman Hospital charity.
Mayor of Sherborne, Councillor Dominic Elliott will officially launch the development at 2pm followed by a Tea Party for all visitors in return for a donation to the Friends of the Yeatman Hospital, which provides a vital service to the community.
Money will also be raised with a raffle for goods donated by local businesses and a number of the new homes for sale, created in the walled garden of Sherborne House, will be open for visitors to look around.
Lorraine Kendrick, Marketing and Sales Manager of Redcliffe Homes said: “We want to meet as many people from the town as possible and we hope to have four or five properties open so that people can see and feel the homes and the environment first hand.
“It is our way of thanking the town as we are aware that when you have a building project like this it can cause some inconvenience to people. We also want to raise as much money as possible for the Friends of the Yeatman Hospital, who have worked tirelessly since 1951 in buying equipment and funding work at the hospital, which is a vital part of the community.
“This will be a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the high specification and show people what we have been building here within the former gardens of Sherborne House. We will have the three-bedroom “Frink” and the four-bedroom “Calydonian” houses open for people to look around. They are among the few remaining properties for sale set around the newly created Portman Place, and those visiting the event will be the first VIP guests to view the Frink located in Portman Square.
“There will also be a chance for people to look around the three-storey “Digby” homes, which provide four bedrooms with a master suite on the top floor. We want to ensure this new community becomes an integral part of the town and this event is one way for people to find out what is happening here while raising the maximum we can for the Friends of the Yeatman Hospital.”
The development includes the painstaking refurbishment of Sherborne House, which once complete will not only secure the building’s future for generations to come but provide a new facility for the people of the area. Working closely with English Heritage the work will restore the structure and interiors of the historic house including the Grade I Listed Thornhill Mural.
Once complete, local businesses will be able to operate from the upper floors, while the public will be given access to the mural in the hall and staircase area.
In addition an Art Café is being created as a new facility for the town, alongside an art gallery within part of the original house. It is hoped that it will be used as the archive of the work of renowned sculptor and printmaker Dame Elizabeth Frink, who sadly died in Blandford Forum 10 years ago.
Although within a short walk of the bustling High Street, Sherborne House Gardens affords a level of privacy within gardens and security rarely seen with a new property development and all homes have parking allocated. Prices range from £405,000 to £440,000.
