Need inspiration for half term this Autumn? Go to Shorefield Holidays for the latest half-term bargains at a choice of four of outstanding holiday parks on the south coast. For the half term period (from October 25) prices start from £199 for a 4-night mid-week or 3-night weekend break and from £329 for a week (based on a family of 4 sharing self-catering accommodation; that’s less than £12 pppn). All parks offer dedicated pet-friendly accommodation too, so there’s no need to worry about kennels.

October is the perfect time to visit the New Forest, its landscape aglow with stunning autumn colours. This is also the time of year when the feral pigs are out and about guzzling the acorns which would otherwise poison the much-loved New Forest ponies, donkeys and cattle.

Oakdene Forest Park, in 55 acres of lovely landscaped gardens in Ringwood, is for active families, with a thrilling weekly programme and the Go Active itinerary’s 20+ activity sessions in the park. Archery, climbing, balanceability (brilliant for youngsters learning to ride a bike), sea scooters and snorkelling are a few of the activities on site, and there are plenty more options within a ten-mile radius of the park, including GoApe, Battlefield Live, horse riding and even flying lessons. Or simply enjoy Oakdene’s excellent facilities (heated indoor pool with flume, toddlers’ pools, gym, sauna, steam room, spa, table tennis, pool, crazy golf, café and bar) and the optional entertainment (kids’ club, Cyril and Cybil the Squirrels, evening cabaret, quizzes and games). All guests checking in for a break at nearby Forest Edge Park enjoy complimentary access to Oakdene’s facilities and entertainment. (Go Active, developed in conjunction with Hoseasons, operates a pay-as-you-go system with prices from £4 per person per session.)

Shorefield Country Park, on the edge of the New Forest and in walking distance of the sea, is set in 100 acres of glorious parkland where kids can roam free. Extensive facilities include heated indoor swimming pool, sauna, floodlit tennis court, five-a-side football pitch, floodlit tennis court, crazy golf, luxury Elemis day Spa as well as shops, the Cheers Bar and a choice of dining. Shorefield also offers a busy entertainment schedule for families, with Cyril and Cybil the Squirrels for younger children and a variety of quiz nights, dancing, games and music for older kids and parents. (Guests staying at Lytton Lawn Touring Park, Shorefields’ dedicated camping and touring park, benefit from complimentary access to the facilities and entertainment offered at Shorefield Country Park.)

Swanage Coastal Park is a little more laid back offering a peaceful environment and stunning views overlooking Swanage Bay and the Purbeck Hills on the Dorset coast. There is a children’s play area, and the park is ideally situated for exploring Britain’s Jurassic Coast – England’s first natural World Heritage Site.

The New Forest has family attractions for every age group: youngsters will visit Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World time and again; Beaulieu’s motor museum and wartime spy history suits every age-group; Liquid Logistics’ canoeing and kayaking courses or Battlefield Live games will burn off teenage energy. Bicycle hire is widely available, beaches are close by and the area is rich in mouth-watering dining-out options, from pubs to Michelin star rated restaurants.
