8th October 2007 Print
Land Rover has achieved yet another record – with the most successful sales month in its entire history. In September, the company sold nearly 26,000 cars around the world – 34% up on September last year and the best performance in 714 months of business.

Freelander 2, Land Rover’s award winning compact 4x4, and the fuel efficient diesel powered Range Rover have attracted buyers in global markets.

Sales in September reached 25,933 and it means Land Rover has sold 167,400 cars so far this year, a rise of 15.7% on last year.

Once again emerging markets showed their appetite for Land Rover cars with sales for the month up by 105% in Russia and 249% in China.

Land Rover’s Managing Director, Phil Popham, said, “This is a great achievement and it’s always satisfying to break past records. We can now approach our 60th anniversary next year with confidence. I want to see the business move forwards responsibly, profitably and in a sustainable manner.”

Mr Popham added, “We’re on track with plans to fit technology to improve the environmental performance of our cars and we've given a hint of new, exciting design. A great future is shaping up.”

Last month Land Rover announced a stop-start system would be fitted as standard in European Freelander 2 TD4 manual derivatives within 18 months, improving fuel consumption by 10% to 41.5 mpg and cutting CO2 emissions by 7% to 179 g/km.
