Romantic Christmas escape to Ross-on-Wye
The Pilgrim Country House Hotel near Ross-on-Wye, close to the border with Wales, has the perfect package for those who would rather spend the Christmas period wining, dining and walking in the Herefordshire countryside than cooking and clearing up at home.
The programme for the Victorian property – which commands spectacular views over the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains across the border in Wales – will commence on the afternoon on Christmas Eve with a warming glass of mulled wine and a brandied mince pie in the cosy bar, with its roaring fire and beamed ceiling.
Following an afternoon at leisure, perhaps a stroll in the hotel’s grounds, pre dinner canapés will be served in the bar together with a cocktail offering a chance to meet fellow guests before moving into the renowned Valley Restaurant for a romantic, candlelit dinner from the à la carte menu.
Waking up on Christmas Day, enjoy the hotel’s famous full-English breakfast together with a cheeky glass of Bucks Fizz in the Valley Restaurant, enjoying the views of the parkland and Golden Valley beyond.
There are many places to visit in the area but most people come for the walking (the Herefordshire Trail passes the front door!) and the hotel has many routes and maps to choose from to build up a healthy appetite for the four-course Christmas lunch.
On Boxing Day, guests can lie in before a late brunch with the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps visit some local attractions such as the quaint market town of Ross-on-Wye or the Hereford Cathedral where the world famous Mappa Mundi is housed (the first ever map of the World).
A traditional afternoon tea will be available during the afternoon and in the evening a four-course candlelit farewell dinner will be served in the restaurant before retiring.
Guests depart on the morning of 27th December following breakfast.
