Enjoy a cracking Christmas full of all of the fun, fine food and some very different yet fabulous festive activities by booking a Christmas break at the four-star Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Bowness, the Lake District.

Lindeth Howe, once owned by author Beatrix Potter, has a four-night package that goes beyond just comfort, relaxation and an escape from the chores, by offering stunning scenery, escorted trips with award-winning experts and little extras on the entertainment front.

The seasonal stay starts on December 23, with arrival and afternoon tea (3.30pm to 5pm). Guests might wish to have a dip in the indoor pool, or work up an appetite in the fitness room, before meeting fellow guests at a pre-dinner cocktail party with canapés at 6.30pm. This is followed by an exquisite five-course candlelit dinner at 7pm, accompanied by the tinkling tones of the Lindeth Howe piano – the one on which Paul McCartney once issued a marriage proposal.

Christmas Eve gets off to a cracking start with a hearty Lindeth Howe breakfast. Luxury Mountain Goat mini coaches will be at guests’ disposal to either take them on a gentle mystery tour, or into Windermere, Ambleside or Bowness for last-minute shopping. There is also a guided walk available for any guests who are feeling energetic.

When the coaches return mid-afternoon, guests can share experiences over afternoon tea. A five-course dinner is served at 7pm, with piano playing by Peter Major. Board games and quizzes can keep guests busy, before transport arrives to take those who wish to attend midnight services to church. Hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies will await their return.

Christmas Day’s breakfast will be served brunch-style from 9.30am-11.30am, as guests descend from their rooms to find a special visitor waiting for them. Bucks Fizz will add to the sparkle of a morning that can be spent relaxing, swimming or maybe strolling the six-acre gardens.

A traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings will be served at 4pm and guests can then relax in front of the fire, or in their rooms. During the evening, tea, coffee, drinks and sandwiches can all be ordered.

Boxing Day starts with a traditional breakfast. Mini-buses will leave the hotel at 11.30am to take guests for a sail on Lake Windermere at midday. After the cruise, they can partake in a Bowness village treasure hunt, or perhaps visit the World of Beatrix Potter. On return, there will be afternoon tea, followed by pre-dinner drinks and a farewell dinner at 7pm.

After breakfast on December 27, guests will depart the hotel, unless they wish to add extra days to their stay for £95 per person per night, for dinner bed and breakfast.

The four-night Christmas package is priced according to the type of room chosen. A Single room costs £640, a Standard double £1280 and a Superior room £1280. A Superior with lake view is priced at £1550 for the four-night stay, while a Deluxe with either garden or lake view, or the Potter Room cost £1590. The most luxurious accommodation in the 34-room hotel – The Westmorland Suite – costs £1830 for the package for two people. The prices are per room, for two people, for the full four nights stay.

These glorious Christmas stays can be booked at lindeth-howe.co.uk.
