Construction work is now underway on a development of 90 new homes from housebuilder David Wilson Homes which will provide more than 100 jobs and contributions of around £210,000 to the local community.

Named Lordswood Gardens the project will transform the former Portland Centre on Portland Road into a selection of high quality family homes.

Since the 1980s the site has been used as offices by Birmingham City Council, prior to that it was a secondary school.

The development will provide a range of two, three, four, five and six bedroom homes, 13 of which have been made available as affordable housing for people who work and live local to the Harborne area whilst meeting certain criteria. All residents will be able to benefit from an acre of public space including a toddler’s playground.

As part of the project David Wilson Homes will contribute funds to Birmingham City Council to be put towards highways, education and off site playing fields.

Homes are expected to be on sale from November 2013 with the entire project having an anticipated completion date of 2016.

Alastair Parsons, Senior Sales Manager for David Wilson Homes Mercia said, “We are delighted to have started work at Lordswood Gardens, which will provide a great mix of homes for everyone from first time buyers to larger families.

“As a local housebuilder, we aim to make our developments as sustainable as possible bringing wide ranging benefits to the local area. By contributing towards public facilities and infrastructure, we’re ensuring that the local community will benefit from these improvements for many years to come.”

Lordswood Gardens is located in the desirable suburb of Harborne just two miles from the hustle and bustle of Birmingham city centre, meaning this development will be perfect for people working in and around the city.

The famous Bullring Shopping Centre along with its flagship Selfridges store, University of Birmingham, Warwickshire Country Cricket Club and the Botanical Gardens are all close by and accessible through the city’s excellent transport links with two main railway stations and the A38, M42 and M6 all within easy reach.
