Schools in at Great Oaks

3rd October 2013 Print

Extensive research by the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics has established that there is a link between house prices and the quality of local schools, with parents willing to pay a premium for proximity to schools at the top of the league tables. A wide choice of excellent schools, both fee-paying and non-fee-paying, makes Countryside Properties’ development, Great Oaks at Wickhurst Green in Broadbridge Heath popular with families with children of nursery age right up to students who are heading towards GCSEs and A-levels.

Amongst the local schools in and around Horsham is Shelley Primary which is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and is within walking distance of the development. The secondary schools and colleges in neighbouring Horsham include Tanbridge House School, a specialist science, mathematics and computing co-educational college for 11-16 year olds which has an Ofsted rating of ‘Outstanding’ with 93% of the year group in 2013 gaining five or more A* - C passes. Millais is one of the leading specialist all-girls secondary schools in the country with an enviable reputation for academic success and was rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2010. Farlington is also an outstanding independent girls' day and boarding school located just outside Horsham, where 57% of all A level grades achieved were at A/A*.

There are also a number of independent schools nearby including Christ’s Hospital, a co-educational boarding and day school for 11-18 year olds, which is one of the oldest schools in the country and was established in 1552 by King Edward VI.

At Wickhurst Green, Countryside Properties is providing a dedicated area within the development for the location of a new primary school with playing fields for the whole community of Broadbridge Heath.

Tony Travers, Managing Director of the New Homes & Communities division at Countryside Properties comments: “Being in close proximity to a wide range of schools can be costly, as families compete to be in the catchment area of the school they wish their child to attend. With the Help to Buy scheme, families can make the move to Great Oaks with a 5% deposit to buy their dream home and be spoilt for choice with a wide range of schools for their child to attend in future. They can be easily accessed by walking or cycling, or through a quick bus or car ride. This will be even easier when the new primary school at this exciting development is opened in the years to come.”

Great Oaks at Wickhurst Green has been designed to perfectly integrate with both the surrounding countryside and the existing leafy landscape of Broadbridge Heath. The development of two, three, four and five bedroom homes combines traditional design with modern amenities in this desirable village location, creating a real community that offers an outstanding quality of life.

Two further bedrooms and a family bathroom complete the accommodation on the first floor.

The stunning five bedroom Langridge is laid out over three floors, with a generous kitchen and dining room, separate living room and cloakroom to the ground floor. French doors open onto the rear garden from both the kitchen and living room. On the first floor the master bedroom features an en-suite and fitted wardrobes. There is another double bedroom on this floor as well as a family bathroom. Bedroom five is also located on this level and could easily be adapted as a study or home office if required. Great Oaks offers the perfect environment for children to explore the great outdoors and parents to unwind after a busy day and enjoy some exercise. A network of footpaths and cycle ways run through the development and across the landscaped green areas and open space.

Wickhurst Green is an extension to the existing village of Broadbridge Heath and will include a village centre strategically located to serve both the new and existing village community and provide retail, commercial and healthcare facilities with opportunities for a new doctors’ surgery, shops, public house or day nursery.

There will be opportunities for play, sport and recreation at Wickhurst Green. Two large neighbourhood play areas designed for a range of age groups are being created together with several community sports pitches with pavilion, parking and social facilities. Enjoy the great outdoors with easy access to managed areas of public open space that connect to the surrounding countryside or perhaps ‘grow your own’ at the allotment site.

Conveniently located for commuters, Wickhurst Green enjoys great local, UK and international transport links. By road, the A24 provides direct access into London to the north and Worthing to the south. Gatwick is only 17 miles away and Heathrow just under an hour. There are regular bus routes from Broadbridge Heath into Horsham, where frequent rail services operate from Horsham to London Victoria and London Bridge in around 55 minutes.

The range of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom properties currently on offer at Great Oaks are priced from £269,995 to £539,995, all available through the Help to Buy scheme. The Government provides an equity loan of up to 20% of the purchase price, interest free for the first 5 years, meaning that you’ll only need a 5% deposit to buy a new home, which helps to make your monthly mortgage repayments more affordable.
