A victorious refurbishment

For your chance to purchase a substantial renovated late-Victorian home on New Park Road in Cranleigh, near Guildford, Surrey, make sure to attend its official launch weekend on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October, between 11am and 4:30pm.

With the majority of the home’s original features restored to their former glory, and an exceptionally high-quality refurbishment courtesy of award-winning housebuilder Millwood Designer Homes, it is safe to say that the renovation of Okehurst is victorious.

Outside, Okehurst is a fine example of Victorian architecture, with a red brick façade, varied roof lines, sash windows and an elegant turret. Dating back to 1897, the year is commemorated by a hand-moulded ceramic plaque.

The impressive porch has steps leading to the front door, which has a beautiful coloured-glass surround and glass inserts.

The traditional features continue inside, where the original parquet floor in the entrance hall has been restored and there are numerous ornate fireplaces, including one in the entrance hall. Although not all functional, they make a wonderful focal point. Some have elegant marble surrounds and ornate tiling, including the grand fireplace in the dining room, which has an impressive black marble surround.

The skirting boards and ornate picture rails have been retained, and doors and windows have been refurbished. As is typical for a Victorian home, Okehurst benefits from high ceilings with attractive ceiling cornices.

The family room has two sets of French doors leading onto the rear patio. Outside, the previous garage has been replaced with a brand new double garage, and the garden has been landscaped. There is the original patio area off the kitchen, along with two useful outside cupboards.

The home has been rewired, replumbed and re-alarmed. For added security, smoke detectors have been linked to the alarm.

However, not everything in the home has been restored, and there are a few changes designed to suit today’s lifestyle.

All bathrooms and en suites have been finished with stylish contemporary sanitaryware, and the kitchen has been refitted with white painted units, black granite worktops and a range cooker. In keeping with the home’s Victorian style, the utility has a butler’s sink, and there is one room that you won’t find in a modern home – a cellar – while the huge loft has access to the top of the home’s turret, where you can relax and gaze up at the stars.

Upstairs you will find five bedrooms and three bathrooms, making it a wonderfully spacious home for a growing family.

Local estate agent Roger Coupe is excited about the launch of Okehurst, saying: “This is the first time that Okehurst has been open to the public and we are looking forward to showing the home off. Millwood has done a fantastic job of renovating the property – it’s full of original features and quirky character, whilst the modern additions have been carefully considered to fit perfectly within this traditional frame.

“Okehurst is a magnificent victory for Millwood and I doubt the home will be on the market for long. We expect to see a high level of interest at the open weekend so make sure to attend to avoid disappointment.”

Guildford is only eight miles away from Cranleigh, with all that this large town has to offer, including a fast train to London Waterloo in just over half an hour. Cranleigh is also close to the A281, with easy access to the A3 and M25.
