21st October 2013 Print

Classic Cottages has launched its new Directory 2014 brochure of 600 self-catering coastal and country properties across Cornwall, Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

Classic Cottages’ portfolio includes beautifully-converted barns, magnificent manor houses, super-stylish apartments, historic castles, thatched chocolate-box cottages, a mood-lit meadow hut and safari-style tents. Long stay or short break, rural or coastal, romantic or active, there are properties sleeping from two to 20 people, just right for any occasion.

With a single click on classic.co.uk, you can choose a baby-friendly or dog-friendly property, to be on a farm or by a beach, to have a swimming pool, a hot tub or an open fire, to ‘go green’ or to have Wifi...it’s the most accommodating self-catering website you’ll ever have come across.

New properties for 2014 include:

Delectable, drive-free dining – Cornwall for five
Forget-me-not Cottage, a charming property in the friendly village of Mullion, has an array of impressive restaurants within a hundred yards’ radius. You’ll be breakfasting at the Old Inn, lunching at the Colroger Deli, and enjoying the catch of the day from Newlyn (and an impressive range of Cornish real ales) at the Mounts Bay Inn in the evening. A week’s stay costs from £83 pp (£414 total).

New England-style beach house – Devon for eight
Hawks Cay - in the heart of Shaldon, where quaint houses jostle for a position in the winding narrow streets – is a delightful New England-style property, with white wooden blinds and white linen curtains. You’re two minutes from the beach and much boating activity, and Shaldon is an emerging foodie destination. A week’s stay costs from £71 pp (£567 total).

Georgian farmhouse grandeur – Cornwall for 12
Grade II listed Treffry Farmhouse, close to the south Cornish coast, is ideal for groups of friends or families. Painstakingly restored by the owners, the drawing room has wooden panelling and a wood burner, and the well-equipped kitchen has granite worktops and a range cooker. Lanhydrock, one of Cornwall’s finest National Trust houses, is nearby, and clifftop walking is an uplifting way to explore the area. A week’s stay costs from £70 pp (£834 total).

Book now for a West Country Christmas or New Year’s Eve break:

Cosy, carbon-neutral Christmas – Cornwall, by train, for two
Nancy’s House is a contemporary, carbon-neutral cottage in a spectacular location on a wind-powered organic farm near St Ives. The owners will happily collect you from Penzance station, and first-class farm produce can be supplied for your Christmas lunch. Portheras beach and Woon Gumpus moor are ideal for walking off one’s over-indulgence, and evenings around the wood burner will be wonderful. Arriving Saturday 21 or 28 December, a week’s stay costs £269 pp (£537 total).

Biospheric baubles – Devon for four
The Garden House is an eco-built barn with a ground-source heat pump and hot water boosted by solar thermal panels. Situated in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, there are acres of meadow to explore and woodland walks a-plenty. Found at the foot of an unmade track, near Beaworthy, deep in the Devon countryside, the property has under-floor heating, a wood burner and oodles of contemporary appeal. Arriving Saturday 21 or 28 December, a week’s stay costs £159 pp (£636 total).

Festive family fun - Somerset for six
Brottens Cottage will suit a brood wishing to enjoy countryside pursuits and scenery, yet be within easy driving distance of activities over Christmas week. Set on a hilltop not far from Wells, the property – originally a coach house – has a games room with table tennis, and an enclosed private garden. The city of Bath, especially beautiful and buzzy at Christmas, is nearby - as is Longleat Safari Park, with its Santa Train and ice skating. Arriving Saturday 28 December, a week’s stay costs £142 pp (£852 total).
