Santa Pod releases classic car show dates for 2014
Santa Pod Raceway, the home of European Drag Racing, has announced its classic car event programme for 2014. As usual, it contains a wonderful array of shows, offering something for enthusiast of all marques and genres of old, interesting and collectible cars.
Kicking things off beautifully will be the Classic Ford Show on the 27th April. Following on from a packed RWYB event on the previous day, the Classic Ford show always manages to assemble the best collection of Dagenham’s finest in one place. Endless seas of Cortinas, Escorts, Pops and Granadas are a real sight to behold, with plenty of on-track action proving what potent machines many of these cars are. One not to miss!
For those who hanker to ride along Brighton sea-front in a Parka, astride a heavily customised Lambretta or Vespa, then the Back with Mods Festival between the 13th and 15th June is just the ticket. All aspects of the Mod lifestyle are catered for with a superb array of music, fashion, people and of course, scooters. Many guests really get into the vibe and feel of the show, ‘Revival’ style, making it a superb spectacle and a brilliant way to spend a long weekend.
The helpfully-titled Retro Show does exactly what it says on the tin, winding back the clock on both two and four wheels to a time when carbs ruled the roost and a radio was considered to be a heady extra. The guest list here is rather eclectic and offers show-goers one of the widest arrays of desirable old classic and retro machines in the Pod’s calendar. Mix in plenty of on and off track action and you’ll understand why the 22nd of June is already getting bookings! With a RWYB on the previous day, why not make a flat-out weekend of it all?
The 11th-13th July sees the outrageous Dragstalgia show fire up to present one the most astonishing assortments of old and interesting race-cars ever to grace the quarter mile. If you want to revel in the noise, sound and smell of the wonderfully prepared cars that made the sport what it is today, then Dragstalgia is the place to do it. With highlights like the ‘Fire Burnout’ Display and ‘Cacklefest’, where the cars are fired-up in unison to create a wall of exquisite noise, have to be experienced to be believed!
Fans of Sir Alec Issigonis’ finest creation will want to block out the 10th August for Mini In The Park. An unashamed tribute to all that is wonderful about the classic Mini, MITP has it all. Racing, trade areas, concours line-ups and plenty for the family to do at the same time. Modern Minis are also welcome, but for classic Mini enthusiasts, it’s the place to settle old pub scores and prove what a great little racecar an A-series powered Min can be!
