Follow England to the Ashes

30th October 2013 Print

If you love cricket, then following England on the Ashes tour of Australia this November to January offers the perfect solution for avoiding the very worst of the winter here.

The first test gets underway in Brisbane on the 21st November. This is Australia’s third largest city and, with its sub-tropical climate and surfing culture, it’s a wonderful city to visit in late spring. There’s so much to do here that a long list is pointless. But, particularly for sports fans and outdoor enthusiasts, there’s a little of everything.

The second test will take you way down south to Adelaide starting on December 5th. This may well be a welcome chance to cool off and take in a little more culture after the heat of the Gold Coast.

The city offers a little more culture than Brisbane and the coastline, reachable in around half an hour is one of the most unique beautiful in the entire world. Then there’s the food - and the well-known wine regions – giving you chance to stock up before you head off for the third test on the west coast in Perth.

Again, there’s so much to do here; the beaches are superb, the shopping is wonderful and, of course, the best thing about Perth in mid-December from an English point of view is the weather averaging 27-30 degrees centigrade as it does!

Next, you’ll be travelling back east to Australia’s capital of culture and second largest city, Melbourne. This is perhaps the most European feeling of all Australia’s major cities but it really does have something for everyone – and is often the city where English tourists feel most at home.

For the big climax, though, there’s only one place to be and that’s Australia’s foremost and largest city, Sydney for the fifth and final Ashes Test beginning on January 2nd, for which the home side are expected to put up a fight – at least, according to the betfair odds.

Sydney needs no introduction but, if you’ve never been, try to imagine most of what is great about London – then add in the sea, beaches, warm weather and you’ll be on the right lines.
