Respected Japanese manufacturer Toyo Tires has released details of its extensive motorsport involvement for 2014. Building on the success of its 2013 placement programme, Toyo has extended both the number and range of championships and series it is working with to create a varied and exciting range of racing activity.

As club motorsport tyres go, The Proxes R888 has long been the default setting for many racers. Thanks to its realistic purchase price, excellent wear rates and impressive cold and wet weather performance (an essential during the British ‘summer’) this tyre, with its many sizes and fitments, has proven itself to be the backbone of British Motorsport.

For 2014, a wide array of both championships and series have taken the Proxes R888 onboard as its control tyre, showing the versatility of its abilities, as well as the sheer number of cars it can work well on. The Toyo Tires Honda VTEC Challenge, Hyundai Coupe Cup, Project 8 Toyo Tires Racing Saloons and Toyo Tires PBMW Championship, and CTCRC Toyo Tires Pre 2005 Production Touring Car Series will also now all be running on TOYO for next season.

Other welcome additions include the CTCRC Pre ’93 and Pre ’83 championships. Racers in either of these superb arenas can also compete for a free set of tyres at the end of the season too, with the highest placed TOYO R888 shod car winning a full set of R888 tyres for their efforts.

All of the series supported by TOYO for 2013 will continue to enjoy backing for the new season too, so the Production GTi series, Civic Cup, Toyota MR2 Championship, JEC Jaguar and Saloon Championship, BRSCC Alfa Romeo Championship will be packing out grids and delighting spectators with their usual close fought antics and action.

Title sponsorship of the Toyo Tires BRSCC Porsche Championship is also assured for the 2014 season, with the packed grid of Boxsters and classic 924s really relying and the grip and predictability of the rubber for safe and close racing. It’s not all mid-engined sports cars in the 2013 Toyo calendar though, as the one exception to the Proxes R888’s dominance, the Class 2CV Racing Club will continue to use the skinny TOYO 310 as it control tyre for its cost-effective and incredibly close racing.

Commenting on the company’s increase in motorsport involvement, Toyo UK Technical and Motorsport Manager Alan Meaker said, “Motorsport has always been an integral part of the TOYO brand, and we’re really looking to support British Club Racing going forward. It’s not only important that we give something back as a company, but we know from talking to racers, that they really like the way the tyre works as an all-round package. It is incredibly effective in the dry, but unlike many semi-slick tyres, it has huge reserves of wet grip too – making it perfect for series looking to keep thrills high, and bills low. We’re interested in talking to any championship coordinators who would like to work with us going forward, and are happy to offer technical and set-up advice throughout the season,”
