North Devon homes set for 'sail' early this year

An exciting new collection of homes will be launched in Bideford this New Year and it’s perfect timing according to one local agent.

Being built by Elan Homes, the development is “exactly what the market is demanding at this current time,” according to Hannah Gorvett, director at Cowlings estate agents in Bideford.

Two neighbouring collections will stand side by side at the development, located east of the town centre; a selection of 11 three and four-bedroom family homes, named Kathleen Grange, will be built alongside a trio of executive detached homes, which form May Court.

Their names are taken from the historic ship The Kathleen and May, which is registered in the town and known to be the last remaining British built wooden schooner of its type still in existence.

Hannah said: “Over the past six months we’ve seen a fantastic improvement in the market, with sales being achieved across the board. The increased confidence levels of first time buyers and investors has provided a boost throughout the whole market and new houses will always be the first to benefit as there is always a demand for brand new.

“Whilst existing new developments in Bideford have sold well as the market has improved, we are very excited to welcome a smaller and more select development by Elan Homes to offer something different to what has been available in Bideford East over the last few years.”

Kathleen Grange and May Court are ideally located off a quiet cul-de-sac off Mines Road, within easy reach of the town centre. The high specification homes will initially go on sale from Cowlings, before Elan opens a marketing suite in spring followed by show homes in autumn.

Hannah believes the location is a major selling point for the development. “Bideford is always a popular place to live with plenty of moving activity created by local people moving within our area, whether down-sizing, up-sizing or just trading in for a change,” she added.

“In addition to the development of 11 houses at Kathleen Grange, the three executive houses at May Court again offers the market something different. They will satisfy the demand for larger living accommodation and bigger plots as the properties are perfect for purchasers looking to trade up from an existing modern home that might be on a smaller scale, but still wanting the brand new feel.”

Predicting a successful time for the housing market in the New Year, Hannah said: “We imagine January to offer much of the same optimism as we have experienced over the last few months. I cannot express enough just how positive the market is. Some of our most recent new instructions have sold in a matter of days. Many are achieving the asking price, and some in excess of the asking price, as demand outstrips supply in some cases.”

Bideford is a small port town on the estuary of the River Torridge in North Devon. The town benefits from good road access via the A39 and A386, and the nearest railway station is in Barnstable, around eight miles away.

The beautiful beaches of the North Devon coast are within easy reach of this bustling market town, which boasts a lively shopping centre. It also is home to the historic Pannier Market as well as a number of amenities, high street shops, banks and cafes.

Cowlings Estate Agents are experienced in the sale of brand new homes and will offer interested purchasers a dedicated service in handling the sales and liaising with the onsite sales team to ensure a smooth and stress free transaction.
