Tour De France brings insurance considerations

23rd June 2014 Print

As Yorkshire prepares to welcome hundreds of thousands of spectators to one of the world’s biggest annual sporting events, NFU Mutual is warning entrepreneurs to check their insurance policies before embarking on ‘pop up’ business ventures, or potentially face being seriously out of pocket.

Victoria Walton, Rural Affairs Spokesperson at NFU Mutual comments: “It is without doubt that an event of this magnitude brings with it a need for extra services in the area and can present fruitful opportunities for ‘pop up’ businesses. Renting out homes or fields, providing park-and-ride transportation or selling refreshments are just some of the ventures we have come across so far – all of which however, do come with insurance implications to consider.

“You should notify your insurer of any activity you are proposing so they can amend your records accordingly and establish if any extra cover is needed.

“Anyone wishing to add or extend a commercial element onto one of their policies are advised to contact their insurer.”
