A home in Falkirk could be one of the ‘happiest’ places to live in the UK according to a new survey.

Falkirk came fifth in the latest Happy at Home index after residents were asked to rate their local area on 12 distinct factors. Nearly 50,000 people responded to Rightmove’s survey, which combined the results to give an ‘overall’ happiness score for more than 100 places across the country.

Harrogate topped the poll with Inverness second, with all the locations being rated on such things as value, wellbeing, amenities, safety and contentment.

Persimmon Homes’ Ashridge development, on Aitken Crescent, offers several different house styles to suit everyone, including two, three, four and five-bedroom properties from their popular Scottish Towns range, perfectly priced to suit first-time buyers to growing families.

Lorraine Clelland, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “Falkirk is a particularly sought after area that has proved popular with buyers due to the fact that it has such a lot to offer. Our Ashridge development is selling so well that we are currently planning a further phase.

“It is no surprise that Falkirk is one of the happiest places to live in the country. Falkirk certainly ticks all the boxes as a great place to be, not just for the stunning scenery, facilities and friendly people but also for its great commuter links with the rest of the country. It does offer the best of both worlds.”

Falkirk has numerous public parks, of which the most notable is The Helix; home of the extraordinary sculptures, the Kelpies. The park also boasts great attractions for the family including cycle networks, water sports and a children’s play area.

Centrally located, the historic town has a great selection of shops and places to eat as well as excellent sporting facilities, with the Falkirk Rugby and Football clubs located nearby.

Ashridge has proved very popular with a wide cross-section of people from first-time buyers to growing families, downsizers and investors.

Lorraine added: “A great community feel is developing at Ashridge and with such great facilities right on your doorstep there is plenty to be happy about, plus it has never been easier to buy with schemes such as Help to Buy Scotland.”

Under the Government-backed shared equity scheme, buyers only need a minimum of a five per cent deposit and are eligible for a twenty per cent loan on the term of a mortgage, which is interest and repayment free.

Lorraine added: “Home Change is also available and, if you are eligible, we arrange at least two valuations, agree a market price and use our expertise to help sell your existing property, with all estate agency fees paid.”

Prices start from £198,995
