Summer family holidays in the South West

1st August 2014 Print

With over 800 properties across Cornwall, Dorset, Devon and Somerset, Classic Cottages has some last minute deals and late availability on some of its newest and most appealing coastal and country holiday homes this summer, including:

Cornwall for nine
New: vintage valley dwelling for two families
One Puddle is a large house in a pretty valley near Fowey, close to family-friendly Par Sands Beach on Cornwall’s southern coast. An eclectic mix of mod-cons and vintage, each individually-themed bedroom is charming and there are two sitting rooms, allowing children and adults their own interests. The property has its own water meadow, stream, wildflower meadow and wild natural wood.
20% saving on a week’s stay: arriving Saturday 2nd August, cost is now £219 pp (£1,964 total – was £2,454).

Dorset for four
Long, lazy picnic lunches by the lake
Dairyman’s Cottage is set within 100 acres of pasture and woodland on a farm on the Dorset-Wilshire border, and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A refurbished former farm building, the property retains a rustic feel and has a stunning open-plan design downstairs. Being close to the market town of Shaftesbury, the beautiful city of Bath, and Longleat Safari Park, you’ll not be stuck for choice for days out. Bicycles are available for hire from the farm, and local-produce picnics can be provided for al fresco meals by the lake.
A week’s stay, arriving Friday 22nd August, costs £213 pp (£852 total).

Cornwall for six
New: riverside adventures for all ages
Helford House, a stand-alone property perched on the banks of the peaceful Helford River near Falmouth, is approached via a steep, zigzag pathway through trees. There’s a large wooden deck and a patio garden, both overlooking Port Navas on the opposite side. The spacious sitting room has solid wood floors and an open fire for cooler evenings. Guests staying in the master bedroom wake up to waterside views, and there’s a bunk room for children.
A week’s stay, arriving Saturday 30th August, costs £172 pp (£1,032 total).

Devon for four
Bows and arrows and blissful walks
Oak Leaf - a mile from Beaworthy, deep in undulating countryside - will delight the most discerning of families. Impeccably renovated, it overlooks a smallholding (where ponies graze) and beyond to Dartmoor. Guests are free to roam the extensive grounds, and there are woodland walks aplenty. Children aged eight-plus can learn the art of archery - shooting dinosaurs, wolves and armoured knights - at Dragon Archery, nearby.
A week’s stay, arriving Saturday 23rd August, costs £229 pp (£915 total).

Somerset for six
High beams and hot tub
Cockmill Barn (sleeps six) is seriously appealing; whilst converted with its original character in mind, equally it’s a contemporary dream with an amazing high beamed ceiling. Within easy reach of Bath, Wells and Glastonbury, this Grade II Listed property has a home cinema and surround-sound system, a hot tub, flat screen televisions in every bedroom and under-floor heating in the luxurious bathrooms. Plus, there’s a lovely paddock for children to play in.
A week’s stay, arriving Friday 29th August, costs £172 pp (£1,032 total).
