First new homes at Beaulieu given go ahead

12th August 2014 Print

The first phase of new homes at Beaulieu in Chelmsford has been granted planning permission, kick-starting the creation of this highly anticipated development that will form an exciting new district on the north-eastern edge of the city. Countryside has been given the go ahead for the first 49 homes and construction of these is expected to commence in September, with the planning decision for a further 184 homes expected within the next few weeks.

Offering a complete range of housing from one bedroom apartments to five bedroom houses, Beaulieu has been planned to create a series of distinctly designed neighbourhoods linked by beautiful parklands and open spaces. Inspired by the surrounding countryside and the location’s rich heritage, Beaulieu will provide modern family living in a traditional English landscape setting.

Situated near Beaulieu Park - the first neighbourhood to have already been developed, the first 49 homes at Beaulieu will offer a collection of traditional style family homes ranging from two to five bedrooms, designed to suit today’s modern lifestyles. These properties will be available for sale from Spring 2015.

Designed to create a thriving new community, once complete Beaulieu will provide 3,600 new homes and an extensive range of community facilities including two new primary schools and a secondary school with associated sports facilities. A new Neighbourhood Centre with shops, restaurant, day nursery, community and health centres is also planned within the first phase of the development to create a vibrant community hub from the outset.

Beaulieu will also provide a strategic 400,00 sq ft business park along with a new relief road connecting Beaulieu with the A12 and the site for a new mainline railway station on the East Anglian main line, which is due to be developed by Network Rail following a £22m investment from Beaulieu.

Richard Cherry, Deputy Chairman at Countryside said: “This is a watershed moment for Beaulieu - we are delighted to be moving from the planning to the build phase. This first collection of homes will set the tone and ambience for the rest of the development by delivering a wide range of beautifully designed new homes surrounded by extensive landscaping that will help link the development to its wider environment. We have worked with leading architects to create a distinctive look that blends modern and traditional style elements and incorporates open spaces and amenities in an integrated way to create a community with a strong sense of place that people will be proud to call home.”
