SsangYong appoints CV dealerships in West and South Yorkshire

18th September 2008 Print
SsangYong SsangYong distributor Koelliker UK Ltd (KUK) has teamed up with specialist commercial vehicle dealers, F&G Commercials, to represent the brand in West and South Yorkshire.

F&G Commercials, started 13 years ago by Frank Woodhead and Glenn Stevenson, are best known as DAF Trucks and LDV Maxus dealers on the Bradley Junction Industrial Estate, Leeds Road, Huddersfield and in Barkston Road, Barnsley. Now the well-established commercial vehicle dealers are expanding and offering customers greater choice, as the newest official dealers for SsangYong cars and light commercials.

Having carved a fine reputation for outstanding customer service, the move into cars with SsangYong is seen as a perfect fit for F&G, and KUK is keen to talk to other CV dealers about how SsangYong can work for them.

“We have been impressed by SsangYong’s range and the company’s plans for the future,” said F&G dealer principal, John Smith. “SsangYong’s slogan is it works for me, and we reckon they’ll work well for customers in Yorkshire. They are tough and well built, and appeal to people who are more interested in their capabilities and cost than the badge. A SsangYong is a lot of car for the money, and that’s what customers are increasingly looking for.”

David Foster, SsangYong dealer development manager said: “We are delighted to have F&G Commercials join the network. They are very professional and we are impressed by their attitude and approach. Although this is their first move into passenger cars, their focus on customer service is exactly what we need and the SsangYong range – including the recently launched LCV models – sit very comfortably alongside F&G’s other brands, as well as being ideal for their customer base.”

He added: “We’ve been doing things differently at SsangYong, and that includes our approach to dealers. We are much more interested in professionalism and the right attitude, than million pound investments in facilities, and we are keen to meet other ‘non-traditional’ dealers so they can learn about the SsangYong franchise and what it can do for their businesses.”

As well as sales of new and used vehicles, F&G’s commercial vehicle experience means that the emphasis is on keeping customers’ vehicles on the road, with the minimum of inconvenience. At Barnsley, servicing and repairs can be carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week – even on bank holidays. The Huddersfield dealership is also open for service 24 hours a day, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday nights. Of course, parts departments hold a vast amount of stock and F&G also has a fully equipped bodyshop.

The SsangYong range
The SsangYong range of Kyron, Rexton and Rodius models appeal to those looking for a well equipped, immensely practical vehicle who want value for money rather than paying the premium prices demanded by other brands. They are especially suitable for anyone with a regular or occasional need to tow a caravan, boat, horsebox or trailer of any kind, and if you need to venture off the tarmac, SsangYong’s four wheel drive systems will let you do it with ease.

The range starts at just £14,995. There are six SsangYong Kyron models with a choice of 2.0 and 2.7 litre, turbocharged common rail diesel engines, with two or four-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmissions. The Kyron represents a considerable saving over its competitors such as the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe and Chevrolet Captiva.

All three SsangYong Rexton models (from £19,995) have all-wheel drive and the 2.7 litre common rail turbo diesel engine for big towing capacity and off-road capability. The Rexton squares up against the Mitsubishi Shogun, Land Rover Discovery and Jeep Cherokee and whichever way you look at it, offers great value and performance with huge advantages over the competition.

For serious people carrying capacity, SsangYong’s Rodius models come in 2wd and 4wd – all with the 2.7 litre turbo diesel – and with automatic transmission as an option.

A full seven-seater with ample luggage space, the Rodius 270 S easily undercuts the Kia Sedona and starts at only £14,995. All Rodius models use the 2.7 litre with 165PS and massive torque. Even a vehicle this big can achieve up to 35.8mpg.

The very latest SsangYongs are light commercial versions of the Kyron and Rexton. Kyron and Rexton S-C models have the rear seats removed, blacked-out windows and a flat load floor installed. They offer massive load space and towing capacity with all the equipment and driving refinement of a passenger car. Starting at only £11,999 (excluding delivery and first registration charges, and VAT) the S-C models can also be fitted with a tachograph – and F&G provide full Siemens VDO tacho service.

All SsangYongs have a standard three year/60,000 mile warranty and 3 years’ AA cover.
