The Royal British Legion and MBNA launch enhanced charity credit card

5th November 2014 Print

Charity credit card provider, MBNA, and The Royal British Legion are to extend their eight year affinity card relationship with an enhanced credit card which will enable members of the public to support the charity simply by spending on their card.

The credit card affinity relationship, which celebrated its eighth anniversary in June, has already helped raise more than £100,000 for the charity thanks to its passionate and engaged cardholding supporters.

In the centenary year of the First World War, MBNA has enhanced the value of the card for eligible new customers. From Wednesday, 5 November 2014, The Royal British Legion Credit Card will offer eligible customers zero percent on balance transfers and money transfers for up to 24 months from the date of account opening (2.99 percent handling fee, £3 minimum, applies to balance transfers and a 4.00 percent handling fee, £3 minimum, applies to money transfers). This offer only applies to transfers made in the first 90 days. It is an increase from the previous 12-month offer period.

The Royal British Legion Credit Card also offers new customers zero percent interest on purchases made up to three months after the date the account is opened.

Representative example: 18.9% p.a. variable on card purchases. This is equivalent to 18.9%APR representative variable based on a credit limit of £1200.

When new customers open an account and use their card, MBNA will contribute up to £20 to The Royal British Legion when the card is used within 90 days of account opening, plus £2 for every year a customer uses their card and 25p for every £100 spent by customers on card purchases.

“MBNA is proud to continue to stand together with The Royal British Legion, a charity that has done so much good for our military personnel over many years”, said Michael Donald, Commercial and Customer Experience executive for MBNA. “Together with our Royal British Legion cardholders, MBNA has shown our support for the Legion by contributing more than £100,000 towards their work. We look forward to helping the charity continue to deliver its vital programme of work”.

Louise Ajdukiewicz, head of Corporate Partnerships at The Royal British Legion added: “This is a fantastic initiative which enables our supporters to raise money for the Legion while they shop, and we are incredibly grateful to both MBNA and its customers for their continued support”.

Charity credit cards help consumers regularly give to charity – it is done automatically, and the chosen charity benefits every time a customer uses the card for purchases.

“We take great pride in being one of the UK’s leading co-branded credit card providers, with tens of thousands of charity credit cards in the UK market, and providing an important source of revenue for our charity partners”, added Donald.

The Royal British Legion Credit Card from MBNA is available for new customers to apply for now at britishlegion.org.uk/creditcard.
