A selection of bijou cottages - perfect for couples seeking a Christmas or New Year getaway in Scotland – are being featured this festive season by Unique Cottages.

These include Edderston Cottage, a detached stone-built property in the quiet, picturesque Borders market town of Peebles which straddles the River Tweed. This ‘picture-book’ cottage sleeps two and has a snug sitting room with an open-fire, a kitchen/dining room with a traditional gas Rayburn, a bedroom and two shower/bath rooms. Small shops, restaurants and bars are just a short walk away, along with a selection of walkways along the River Tweed. Seven nights from 20 or 27 December cost £495.

In the traditional fishing village of Gardenstown in Banffshire is The Wee Hoose which, as the name implies is small, but in character and quality is substantial. The cottage, a perfect relaxing festive retreat for couples, has an open-plan living area with multi-fuel stove, a bedroom and a shower room. It is just yards from the beach and a short stroll from the picturesque 19th century harbour. A week from 20 or 27 December is priced at £350.

Finally, on the shores of Loch Grosebay on the Hebridean island of Harris, is Sgeir a ‘Chais, a former bothy now completely renovated into a snug little holiday home making the perfect hideaway for two. The sitting room has a solid fuel stove, there’s a double bedroom with a sleigh bed, plus a fully-equipped kitchen and shower room. It snuggles into the hills at its rear and enjoys views of the loch’s inlet to its front. Seven nights from 20 or 27 December cost £450.
