More than 50,000 people have so far been able to buy their own homes thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, among these 82% are first time buyers and around half are single person households. Not only is Help to Buy allowing people to get their first foothold on the property ladder, it is permitting many to purchase a larger home that they would otherwise have bought. At Buchans Mead in Crawley, housebuilder Countryside reports that a significant number of single people are purchasing two or three bedroom houses, thanks to assistance from Help to Buy.

Currently available at Buchans Mead is a collection of contemporary three bedroom houses in a thriving new community that is proving popular among first time buyers and single buyers. For a notable proportion of these, buying a home has only been possible through the Help to Buy scheme. And with Help to Buy recently getting the all clear to continue from the Governor of the Bank of England, it looks like this is a trend that is set to continue.

Richard Cherry, Chief Executive of Countryside’s Partnerships division comments: “A good proportion of our buyers at Buchans Mead are making the most of the Help to Buy scheme. For many single buyers who have chosen this as the location and type of community they want to live in, it has only been thanks to Help to Buy that they have been able to afford a three bedroom house, rather than a small apartment elsewhere. Buying a larger property will last them for longer into the future, even if their circumstances change and their households grow in size, whilst also allowing extra flexibility for example to work from home and have guests to stay.”

Buchans Mead is situated halfway between London and Brighton, just six miles from Gatwick Airport, making it well located for both urban amenities and the rural surroundings of West Sussex. Here a friendly new community is coming alive, making it a welcoming choice for people buying on their own. The homes combine traditionally designed architecture with the very best of modern construction techniques, to create a development which blends in with the existing built environment yet offers the very best in modern living.

The homes are finished to a high specification, with a neutral contemporary décor creating a perfect blank canvas for buyers to make their own mark. Contemporary kitchens are fitted with handleless driftwood effect units and are equipped with the full range of integrated appliances. Bathrooms come complete with quality white sanitaryware, chrome accessories and chocolate colour tiling, while flooring is included throughout.

Security is a priority throughout, giving peace of mind for those living on their own. Each home has its own private, enclosed rear garden with patio and lawn, landscaped front garden and dedicated parking space. The external lights to the rear of the home are controlled by sensor as a security measure, while closed board fencing between properties also adds security.

Buchans Mead is not only well located for Gatwick Airport, but from near by Crawley railway station it is less than an hour into Central London. For trips to the South Coast, Brighton is just 22 miles away making it easily accessible for a day at the seaside. Crawley itself has been the subject of a recent makeover and offers a busy mix of retail, leisure and entertainment, while for nature lovers, green opens spaces are never far away with Buchan Country Park and Tilgate Park on the doorstep.

Properties currently available at Buchans Mead start from £285,000 for The Balcombe – a three bedroom house. All properties are available through the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, whereby the purchaser only needs a 5 per cent deposit. An equity loan of up to 20 per cent of the purchase price is provided, interest free for first five years, lowering the amount that needs to be covered under a mortgage.
