Mincemeat Irish cocktail

Since September Sainsbury’s has sold more than 8 million mince pies, showing that our appetite for the seasonal treat is larger than ever before. To help Sainsbury’s shoppers get a hit of their favourite Christmas flavours in a single glass, Sainsbury’s has teamed up with London Cocktail Club guru JJ Goodman to create a delicious and simple mincemeat cocktail recipe for you to dazzle your guests with.

Combining classic festive ingredients including Sainsbury’s award-winning Irish Cream Liqueur, Sainsbury’s Cognac, milk, fruit mincemeat and a clementine, it’s a fantastic, fun way to entertain friends and a great way of ensuring you don’t end up with a half empty jar of mincemeat in the cupboard at the end of Christmas.

Great value and comforting, the delicious tastes of the Irish Cream and cognac combine with the currants, sultanas candied peel and brandy in the mincemeat to create the taste of Christmas in a glass.

The Mincemeat Irish

Ingredients

50ml Sainsbury’s Irish Cream

25ml Sainsbury’s Cognac

2 teaspoons of Sainsbury’s fruit mincemeat

25ml whole milk

Clementine, whole

Method

Apart from the clementine, add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for ten seconds to allow for some of the dilution and to properly chill the drink. Then strain the cocktail into a martini glass or a short glass filled with cubed ice. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker use a jam jar.

Take a clementine or orange and a potato peeler, zest a strip of peel 3cm wide and 6cm or so long. Twist the peel over the glass orange side down to spray the oils over the drink, which will give you an amazing smell as you sip.
