Macau has been chosen as one of the top 10 regions for travel in 2015 in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2015 annual publication.

Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2015 highlights the top ten countries, cities and regions that Lonely Planet's experts recommend travellers experience in 2015.  Selecting what to include in the publication is a considered process involving Lonely Planet's authors, editors and online community.  The final selection and ranking is made by a panel of in-house experts who give each destination in the shortlist a score in line with criteria such as topicality, excitement and 'x-factor'.  It could be that there is something special going on that year, that there's been a recent development or a buzz about the place.

In selecting Macau for Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2015 Top Ten Regions, Lonely Planet highlighted Macau’s Portuguese heritage, its unique Macanese fusion cuisine and broad range of attractions, from Buddhist temples to glitzy shows and from the world’s highest bungee jump to Michelin-starred dining.    It also highlighted forthcoming new transport links and hotel openings including Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott.

Sue Whitehead, UK & Ireland Representative, Macau Government Tourist Office, said: "We are thrilled that Macau has been selected for Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2015.  With its fascinating east-west culture and world class attractions and infrastructure, it should be on everyone's wish list when considering a Far East trip.  It's a very exciting time too for Macau with a number of incredible hotels opening over the next three years - including the world's first Karl Lagerfeld hotel - and the world's longest sea bridge connecting Macau with Hong Kong due to open soon. This will make it even easier for UK travellers to visit."

As well as the publication there is a dedicated website featuring all of the Best in Travel 2015 destinations and additional advice on visiting them.  Macau's page can be found at: lonelyplanet.com/best-in-travel/regions/10-macau
