Barratt’s innovative Hanham Hall development in South Gloucestershire continues to win national acclaim – this time in the prestigious What House? Awards.

The five star housebuilder picked up Gold Awards for both Best Sustainable Development and for Best Exterior Design.

The What House? awards have been running for more than 30 years and are designed to highlight the achievements of the new homes industry with this year’s awards attracting a record number of entries.

Judges said the housebuilding industry needs exemplar schemes like Hanham Hall, created together with the Homes and Communities Agency, to act as a marker and knowledge base to drive sustainable understanding. “Barratt Homes should be applauded for pushing the boundaries and setting a benchmark for sustainable living.’’

They praised the development for being packed with innovative ideas and said that its generous use of timber on the facades provides a rich layering effect against the white rendered elevations and gives the project a sense of joie de vivre which qualifies the development for gold in the best exterior category.

Barratt Bristol’s managing director Richard Gregory said it has been an amazing year for the development with a number of awards for design and sustainability.

“Our aim with Hanham Hall has always been to produce a development which sets new standards in terms of sustainability, innovation and design and we are delighted that these efforts have been rewarded with a number of key awards,’’ said Richard.

“We have worked with the Homes and Communities Agency and South Gloucestershire Council to create a development which sets new standards for sustainable living for the future and to win two golds at the What House? Awards is a tremendous achievement for everyone involved.’’

Cllr John Ashe, Chair of Adults and Housing Committee, South Gloucestershire Council said: “We are delighted that the Hanham Hall development in South Gloucestershire has picked up another accolade, this time for design and sustainability. South Gloucestershire Council takes a positive approach to planning and development and is committed to working with developers to promote growth, while also supporting the development of sustainable communities which provide attractive places for our residents to live.”

Sales have exceeded all targets with the development hailed as one of the region’s property successes.

Hanham Hall is set within 12 acres of open space – with the Grade II listed Hanham Hall itself as a centrepiece. The development features plenty of open space with kick around areas for children, allotments, an orchard, communal outdoor areas and direct access to the Bristol to Bath cycle path.
