New for 2015, experience a piece of history courtesy of Cornish Cottages which is featuring The Showmans Living Van, dating from 1900 and carefully restored back to its former glory - during the winter of 2013 - by the present owners.

This van was built for Arthur Ashley in 1900 by Watsons of Belper, to travel with his four abreast gallopers.  After Arthur’s death, his daughter lived in it until 1971 and it then remained unused until bought by the present owner.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a back to basics break and to sample the traditional, simple life.  The van has limited space and no mod-cons, though facilities do include electric lighting and heating via a wood burning stove, plus there’s a 2-hob gas burner for ‘cooking’ and a small handbasin for washing mugs or glasses.

There are also two seats and a fold down ‘table’ in the living space and the bedroom consists of two bunks – one at ground level and one about one metre high.  Outside, there’s garden furniture and a private seating area, whilst a modern shower and toilet are just 50m away.  Of course, there is no TV or WiFi and only a limited mobile phone signal!

The van enjoys a secluded location with superb rural views and is just eight miles from the North Cornish Coast beaches of Crackington Haven, Widemouth Bay and Bude.

Available between end of March and end of October 2015, The Showmans Living Van is bookable on a per night basis at a cost of £80 per night with a minimum stay of two nights.
