As affordability of housing continues to make it difficult for young buyers to get on, or move up to the second rung of the property ladder, joint-buying has become a viable alternative solution for keen homeowners. At Countryside’s Buchans Mead development, in the bustling West Sussex town of Crawley, is the latest collection of three bedroom homes which provides the ideal first investment for joint buyers.

Prices at Buchans Mead start from £285,000 with the Government backed Help to Buy scheme, meaning buyers can pool their resources to get a firm footing on the property ladder, without compromising on space, location or quality.

Andrew Loveday, Sales Director at Countryside comments: “Often first and second time buyers can only stretch to a small flat or apartment, which doesn’t always offer the best equity, making it difficult to move up the ladder. Buying with a partner or friend therefore is a more sensible and popular choice, especially for first time buyers. This means buyers can increase their budget and afford much larger and higher-spec properties that they would not be able to afford on their own.”

The properties at Buchans Mead are the ideal size for a first home to share with a friend or relative. With spacious open plan interiors, separate bedrooms and bathrooms, plenty of storage space and private gardens, the homes couldn’t be more ideal for joint buyers.

Contemporary kitchens are fitted with handleless driftwood effect units and come equipped with the full range of integrated appliances, including microwave, electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and tumble dryer. Bathrooms feature a light, natural palette with white sanitaryware contrasted with stylish chrome accessories and flooring is included throughout. Outside there is off-road parking, turfed rear garden with feature patio and photo voltaic panels to the roof, helping homeowners reduce their energy bills.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, Buchan Country Park and Bewbush Water Gardens are on the doorstep, providing residents with a variety of opportunities to walk, run and cycle. Also nearby is Tilgate Park, a wonderful public space set in 400 acres and winner of the national Green Flag Award.

Crawley itself has been the subject of a recent makeover that has attracted bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants. The recently opened Pavilion retail development in Queens Square adds to the hugely popular County Mall. In Crawley Leisure Park is Crawley Health Club, run by Virgin Active, and K2 a state of the art leisure centre which is just 2 miles away. This impressive venue offers a huge range of facilities, including the only Olympic sized swimming pool in the south of England outside of London. There’s also a climbing wall, badminton and squash courts, a fully equipped gym, outside pitches and a floodlit athletics stadium.

Buchans Mead is well connected for resident commuters. From nearby Crawley railway station, residents can be in Central London in less than an hour. A 24-hour bus service with direct links to Gatwick airport –only 6 miles away - stops just outside the development, and for trips to the South Coast, Brighton is just 22 miles away making it easily accessible for a day at the seaside or to enjoy the nightlife.

The Help to Buy scheme at Buchans Mead really can help first time buyers get on the property ladder. The Government will provide an equity loan of up to 20% of the purchase price, interest free for the first five years, all of which helps to boost the deposit total, and make monthly mortgage repayments more affordable. A deposit of only 5% is needed through this scheme meaning joint buyers would only need a deposit of £7,125 each.

Prices at Buchans Mead currently start from £285,000 for The Balcombe. Joint-buyers wishing to book a viewing on the properties should visit buchans-mead.co.uk.
