Dragon Truck & Van wins £6m local authority contract Cardiff-based Iveco distributor Dragon Truck and Van has won a £6m contract with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council for the supply of a new 250-strong commercial vehicle fleet.

The three year framework agreement, with the option to extend for a further 12 months, represents the largest local authority contract of its nature awarded in Wales in the last three years.

The new fleet will comprise a mixture of vehicles built on Iveco’s versatile Daily and Eurocargo chassis, ranging from 3.2 tonne panel vans to 18 tonne high pressure jetters. It also includes tippers with crew cabs, sweepers, gritters and specialist waste collection trucks with Farid bodies, built for the Council’s new recycling operation.

Dragon is also supplying 14 Daily welfare buses with UV Modular bodies, together with 9 Daily Start minibuses, manufactured by Irisbus, Iveco’s passenger transport division.

In addition to the vehicle contract, the company has secured a £1.7m maintenance contract with Rhondda Cynon Taf to run over the next five years. Part of this contract will be facilitated by Dragon’s new 22,000 sq ft dealership on the Merthyr Tydfil Industrial Estate. Opened in February 2006, it operates alongside the company’s main dealership in Cardiff.
