Iveco Trakkers go off road with Deejak Builders

Supplied by local Iveco distributor Stormont Truck & Van, the two 8x4 Trakker AD340T38K’s benefit from a Stralis-based cab offering the same degree of comfort for heavy duty construction applications as is typical of Iveco’s flagship on-road model.
Fitted with Thompson Loadmaster steel tipper bodies, the Trakkers are finished in the livery of Deecon Civils, a civil engineering company established by Deejak Builders in August 2005. Before entering operation, the vehicles were displayed on the Iveco stand at both Truckfest Peterborough and SED.
"The two Trakkers have been purchased specifically for a new contract which will see the vehicles operating within a 30/40 mile radius of the construction site in Northampton," says Derek Titmuss, Chairman and Managing Director of Deejak Builders.
"We selected the Trakker for its reputation as a no-nonsense workhorse, coupled with its attractive whole life costs and availability in time for this major new contract starting," he adds.
Both Trakkers have a cab width of just 2.28 m, ensuring vehicle manoeuvrability in confined spaces is excellent, thus reducing risk of collision with obstacles. The cab also benefits from anti-slip access steps which make getting in or out of the cab even safer and feature a bottom step which is flexible and hingeless, so if it makes contact with an obstacle whilst manoeuvring, it simply bends and then returns to its original shape.
Inside the Trakker cab, the driver’s seat has air suspension and is fully adjustable with a headrest and an integrated seatbelt. It is upholstered in vinyl which makes it easy to wipe clean.
Both vehicles are powered by the same 12.9 litre Cursor 13 engine producing up to 380hp and a maximum torque of 1,800 Nm between 940 and
1,480 rev/min. This availability of high torque at low engine speeds is particularly useful for hill starts, and smooth driving even on rough terrain is guaranteed thanks to peak torque and maximum power being available from intermediate speeds.
