Stralis demonstrator hooks Kerry Logistics’ drivers Kerry Logistics (UK) Ltd has taken delivery of two Iveco Stralis AS440S48TX/P tractor units after trialling a demonstrator on the fleet for six weeks.

The order marks a distinct switch from its Scania heavy truck purchasing policy and follows the successful operation of a handful of 7.5 and 12 tonne Eurocargos over the past 12 months.

“The Eurocargos have performed really well and the back-up from CD Bramall in Manchester has been superb,” says Mark Hunt, UK Logistics Manager. “Our heavy truck fleet has been 100 per cent Scania for years, but our positive experiences with the Eurocargo tempted us to put a Stralis demonstrator on the fleet and really put it through its paces.

“Initially there was some resistance from the drivers, but after two hours on board the Stralis they were hooked and singing its praises. This positive feedback has continued since the new vehicles joined the fleet, with particular praise for the Active Space cab and the EuroTronic gearbox,” he adds.

Expected to remain on the fleet for at least three years, the new vehicles will cover up to 60,000 miles a year transporting containers across the UK, with servicing and maintenance carried out at CD Bramall.

Both Stralis vehicles are powered by Iveco’s proven Cursor 13 engine, which produces up to 480 hp at 1,900 rev/min and a peak torque of 2,200 Nm between 1,000 and 1,530 rev/min.

As the first heavy truck to feature an automated gearbox as standard, the Stralis is driven through Iveco’s EuroTronic transmission, which offers either fully or semi-automated shifts. It also eliminates the need for a clutch pedal, helping to optimise gear shifts and making the Stralis extremely driver-friendly.

Kerry Logistics is a member of the multi-billion dollar turnover Kuok Group, one of the largest diversified conglomerates in Asia. With headquarters in Hong Kong, Kerry Logistics operates in 13 countries and over 150 cities and, given its strong presence in China, the organisation has an unparalleled insight into this rapidly developing market.
