Iveco announces Adblue top-up policy

14th September 2006 Print
Iveco has announced that all new Euro 4/5 Eurocargo, Stralis and Trakker models will be supplied to customers with a full tank of AdBlue.

Iveco dealers are also offering AdBlue for sale from the part’s departments of the 108 service points across the UK, ensuring customers have easy access to AdBlue supplies when placing routine parts orders.

Iveco’s Euro 4/5 truck engine strategy is focused around selective catalytic reduction (SCR), which is proven to reduce NOx by up to 85 per cent. SCR requires periodic replenishment of the NOx reductant, AdBlue, which is available to buy at a growing number of truckstops and large filling stations.

“We’ve put these measures in place to ensure that keeping a vehicle topped up with AdBlue is as straightforward as possible,” says Chris Thorneycroft-Smith, Managing Director of Iveco UK.

“Our own extensive research has shown that exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is unlikely to meet Euro 4/5 emission limits with competitive fuel consumption, making it a technological dead-end for the short life of Euro 4 heavy duty engines only. Iveco’s SCR strategy means we are already able to offer our complete truck range at both Euro 4 and 5, backed up by a network with the infrastructure to supply AdBlue,” he adds.

The Iveco range is available with a variety of different sized AdBlue tanks, with Eurocargos featuring a 25 litre tank and all Trakkers featuring either a 40 or 55 litre tank as standard, with the option of a heated tank for operations in cold climates. Stralis models feature either a 50 or 55 litre heated tank as standard.

The quantity of AdBlue to be injected is calculated by a control unit that receives various types of input including the temperature of exhaust gases in the catalytic converter, quantity of fuel injected in the engine, flow of aspirated air and external environmental conditions.
