Suttons Group orders five Iveco Stralis tractors

Widnes-based Suttons Group Ltd has taken delivery of five Iveco Stralis tractor units, which join a fleet of 300 commercial vehicles operating across the UK.

Supplied by Iveco distributor Northern Commercials, the Stralis Active Time 6x2 tractors (ATS440S43TX/P) will be used within the Suttons Tanker Division, which operates in three main market sectors including chemicals, petroleum and gas.

Group Managing Director, Andrew Palmer, explains: “We selected to trial a number of Stralis’ ahead of further planned fleet replacements. The specification of the Stralis Active Time model is a good match with our requirements, and we will be monitoring the vehicles’ performance closely in the coming months.”

Expected to remain on the fleet for five years and covering up to 160,000 km a year, the Stralis’ will be based at Suttons Group’s operating bases in Hull and Thornaby. Servicing and maintenance will be carried out by North East Truck & Van, which has Iveco dealerships located in Hull and Billingham, just seven miles from Thornaby.

Each of the Stralis tractor units are powered by the proven Cursor 10 engine, with its 10.3 litre capacity capable of producing up to 430 hp and 1,900 Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,590 rev/min.

The engine is driven through Iveco’s EuroTronic transmission, which offers either fully, or semi-automated shifts, and 12 ratios, ideally spaced for this type of operation. Eliminating a clutch pedal and optimising key shifts also makes it extremely driver friendly and safe.

The Stralis AT440S43TX/P is one of 2,000 variants in the Stralis range and is purpose built for distribution and fleet operations as well as medium to long-haul domestic missions. The full range also includes the Active Day, which is aimed at short-haul distribution markets for rigid, tractor and drawbar applications and the flagship Active Space models, for long-haul UK and international haulage.
