Iveco wins Euro 5 deal with Coca-Cola Enterprises

The Stralis AD260S31YF/S-D rigids replace ten Iveco Eurocargos in the fleet and feature a comprehensive specification including full air-suspension, which ensures a completely flat chassis regardless of whether the vehicle is unladen, laden, lowered for manual unloading or raised for ‘dock’ loading. Each of the new vehicles also benefit from a rear-steering axle, to ensure maximum manoeuvrability in busy urban environments, together with colour reversing cameras and air-conditioning.
Fitted with 7.86m long Reeves ‘slide-a-side’ bodies and BAR two-tonne full closure tail-lifts, the vehicles join a fleet of over 900 commercial vehicles (3.5 tonnes and over) and will be used for multi-drop deliveries in towns and cities, primarily to hotels, fast-food chains, restaurants, high street retailers and the licensed trade.
John Lennox, Logistics Assets Controller at Coca-Cola Enterprises GB, explains: “As a company we are committed to taking steps which help to lessen our environmental impact, especially where measures are available to reduce emissions on vehicles operating in urban areas.
“This made the availability of the full Iveco truck range at Euro 5, at least two years ahead of any legislative environmental requirement, a significant attraction. It ensures our vehicles are as clean as possible, despite the lack of any fiscal incentives. We also continue to investigate continued improvements for the future,” he adds.
The new fleet will be in operation up to six days a week and will be serviced by the Iveco dealer network, delivering soft drinks including ‘Coca-Cola’, ‘diet Coke’, ‘Coke Zero’, ‘Fanta’, ‘Lilt’ and ‘Sprite’.
As one of the only manufacturers already able to offer its full range of medium and heavy trucks in Euro 5 specification, the Iveco Stralis rigids are powered by a 7.8 litre Cursor 8 engine, developing up to 310 hp between 1,675 and 2,400 rev/min and up to 1,300 Nm of torque between 1,200 and 1,675 rev/min.
The new Euro 5 Stralis models feature Iveco’s latest EuroTronic AS1420 TD gearbox, which sees the gear change controls incorporated into the dashboard on the right-hand steering column stalk, further improving cab ergonomics and making gear changes even easier for the driver. The relocation of the gear selector also opens up the flat floor area of the cab, creating additional space for the driver.
‘Coca-Cola’, ‘Coke’, ‘diet Coke’, diet Coca-Cola’, ‘Coca-Cola Zero’, ‘Fanta’, ‘Lilt’ and ‘Sprite’ are registered trademarks of The Coca-Cola Company. ‘Coke Zero’ is a trademark of The Coca-Cola Company.
