New Iveco fleet rolls into T&T Express Deliveries
T&T Express Deliveries, based in Tonbridge in Kent, is in the process of taking delivery of five new Ivecos from local dealer Stormont Truck & Van – the first Iveco models to join its current fleet of 15 commercial vehicles.Taking pride of place in the delivery is a Stralis Active Time 6x2 twin-steer tractor unit (AT440S45TX/P) – Iveco’s popular workhorse for distribution and fleet operations, as well as medium to long-haul domestic missions. It is joined by three Eurocargo 75E18s, together with a Stralis rigid which is due for delivery in March 2009.
“We’ve been a longstanding Daf operator for many years, but a combination of factors – including meeting the local Iveco dealer and being invited to test drive the new Stralis led to us placing our first Iveco order in many years,” says Liam Manby, who runs T&T Express Deliveries with his sister Cora Halloran.
“The proof of the pudding will be in the eating, but our initial impressions of the Eurocargo and Stralis is very positive indeed. There is enough room in the new Stralis to hold a party, and the lead times quoted by Stormont Truck & Van are a league apart from other manufacturers. Our Stralis was delivered inside six months from the date we placed our order, but they even had stock on-site, if we’d needed a truck there and then and not wanted to order a new build to our own specification,” he adds.
Replacing a Daf 95 XF, the Stralis AT tractor unit will be on the road up to six days a week and is expected to cover approximately 60,000 miles a year on general haulage operations around the UK.
The new Stralis AT features an interior offering ample storage space, double bunks and a central internal height of 1.82 m, which affords the driver plenty of room to stand up. The driving position includes an air-sprung heated seat with lumber support which adjusts for reach, height and rake.
The specification also includes Iveco’s proven driveline which sees its powerful Euro 5 10.3 litre Cursor 10 engine driven through an automated EuroTronic transmission. Capable of producing up to 450 hp between 1,550 and 2,100 rev/min and up to 2,100 Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,550 rev/min, this combination offers impressive performance, economy and driveability, with the gear change controls incorporated into the dashboard and right-hand steering column stalk to ensure the best possible cab ergonomics.
