Customer appeal drives Stralis fleet order for Alltruck plc

16th December 2008 Print
Iveco Stralis Active Space Super Commercial vehicle hire specialist Alltruck plc, has placed an order for 45 new Iveco Stralis Active Space Super³ tractor units following direct feedback from its customers after an intensive trial programme.

The Stralis AS440S50TX/P 6x2 twin-steer tractors join a mixed fleet of more than 1,000 commercial vehicles and represent a significant conquest deal for Iveco. Supplied by Iveco dealer Chatfields Commercials, the new vehicles will be joining the fleet over the next three months.

Paul Robinson, Managing Director of Leicester-based Alltruck plc, says: “We first looked seriously at the Iveco Stralis last year due to lack of availability from our regular suppliers. We placed an order for four vehicles and these have been operating successfully for 12 months, proving a massive hit with our customers in the process, largely due to the sheer size and comfort-factor of the new Iveco cab.

“As a business we specialise in offering a range of premium tractor units across our fleet and the Stralis Active Space Super³ has lived up to this reputation well. Some customers have even taken the unprecedented step of returning other marques to us and asking specifically for one of the new Stralis’,” he adds.

Each of the new Iveco tractor units supplied to Alltruck differ from the traditional rental vehicle specification in being powered by Iveco’s larger 12.88 litre Cursor 13 engine, which delivers up to 500 hp between 1,525 and 1,900 rev/min and a maximum 2,300 Nm of torque between 1,000 and 1,525 rev/min.

“We’ve standardised on the 500 hp model in line with our premium rental offering in the marketplace. But far from being more thirsty on fuel, the first four vehicles have been returning an average of 10mpg, operating at up to 44 tonnes. This more than off-sets the small premium we pay for the larger engine and is a direct benefit for our customers,” explains Mr Robinson.

Like all flagship Stralis AS Super³ tractors, the new Iveco trucks in Alltruck’s fleet offer drivers maximum comfort and space inside the cab, with a heated and air-suspended driver’s seat offering four separate comfort level settings and a flat floor covering the living area of the cab. The high-specification interior also includes a slide-out fridge, air-conditioning, door roller blinds and an electrically operated roof-vent and windscreen blind.

As one of the most spacious two-man high-roof cabs available on the market, the new AS Super³ offers 20 per cent more internal space than the previous AS model Stralis, combined with a 15 per cent increase in internal storage space.

Each of the new vehicles is expected to remain in operation with Alltruck for four years, covering between 70,000 and 100,000 miles a year. They will be serviced by a combination of in-house workshops and Iveco dealerships across the country.
