Iveco Trakker eight wheeler enters the mix with Hanson operator

Iveco Trakker eight wheeler Iveco has delivered a new Iveco Trakker 8x4 rigid chassis mounted with a mixer body to Flintshire-based R Wynn Plant Hire, which operates a franchise for Hanson delivering readymix concrete across North Wales and Cheshire.

The order was secured by Iveco dealer Chatfields Truck & Van in Warrington after Robin Wynn, Managing Director, contacted five local commercial vehicle dealers requesting a quotation and detailed specification for their most suitable vehicle.

“I asked each of them to post me a quotation for the vehicle, together with a brochure and full specification. I was amazed that despite putting a potentially high value vehicle sale in their hands, I only heard back from two of the five dealers.

“One of those was Chatfields, who proved incredibly efficient and recommended the Trakker AD340T41K mixer chassis. I was impressed with the Trakker’s specification and liked the look of similar Iveco’s I’d seen operating locally. We’ve also operated a number of Eurocargos in the past and they have been strong performers, so I felt confident purchasing another Iveco,” he says.

The new Trakker was delivered with a McPhee mixer body, replacing a seven-year-old ERF with a Hymix body. It is expected to remain on the fleet for a similar length of time, operating up to six days a week including occasional nighttime work manned by a second driver.

“Our annual mileage will be low, but the engine itself will work very hard driving the PTO on-site when making deliveries and when being loaded back at base. In this respect the Cursor 13 engine is proving to be a real workhorse and initial reports from the driver have been very positive,” adds Mr Wynn.

The Trakker benefits from a lightweight chassis offering a combined body and payload allowance of 22,145 kg, and is built with single reduction Meritor axles, replacing the hub reduction variants previously fitted to all EuroTrakker and Trakker models. This ensures the vehicle returns the best possible fuel economy.

Other key features across Iveco’s latest Trakker range is the fitment of all-round ventilated disc brakes, which guarantee excellent braking performance and simpler maintenance, helping to further reduce downtime during vehicle servicing.

Plated at 32 tonnes, the Trakker is powered by Iveco’s 12.8 litre Cursor 13 engine, which is capable of producing up to 410 hp between 1,515 and 1,900 rev/min, ensuring maximum power is available from intermediate speeds to allow smooth driving even on rough terrain. Also key to the Trakker’s performance is the 1,900 Nm of torque available between 1,000 and 1,515 rev/min, which aids manoeuvring in adverse operating conditions.

Included as standard on Iveco’s dedicated Trakker mixer chassis is an all-steel bumper, consisting of three sections, which helps to minimise replacement costs if damaged. For added protection, the halogen headlamps are set into the front of the vehicle and shielded by a removable grille.

The latest Trakker AD cab is accessed via three anti-slip steps which ensure maximum safety when entering or exiting the vehicle. In addition to the vehicle’s excellent off-road ground clearance, the bottom step mounting is flexible, reducing any possible risk of off-road damage. Inside the cab, the driver benefits from the same comforts found on board a road-going Stralis, whilst as a dedicated mixer model it also comes as standard with an ‘Easy-Clean’ cab. This removes much of the cloth-covered trim and replaces it with a wipe-clean finish, enabling the cab to be cleaned more easily when operating in harsh, dirty and dusty environments.
