Are you stuck in a game rut and need some inspiration for what to play next? Then your timing is impeccable with the Steam Summer Sale still going on. You’re bound to pick up an amazing and exciting experience that will have you completely immersed! Here are some of the best titles released on the PC over the last few years. Snap them up while you still can…

Darkest Dungeon

Darkest Dungeon is still in early access, but don’t let that dissuade you. This game is exceptionally challenging and highly addictive. As a band of warriors looking for fame and fortune, you explore a range of territory and fight turn-based battles. So far, so vanilla.

However, your team is subjected to harsh sanity checks, leading them to lose their mental capacities while adventuring. The game ruthlessly saves every time someone on your team dies, so you can’t just reload and try again. And your team needs to pay frequent visits to the Church or Tavern to lose the adverse effects of dungeon exploring. Definitely one for World of Warcraft fans.

Nosgoth

Nosgoth is a fun, team-orientated game that allows players to take a side: vampires or vampire hunters. There are multiple classes of hero to choose from, and each come with their own unusual abilities. It’s a chilled out, enjoyable, casual game that you don’t have to invest too much time into. This War of Mine

This War of Mine is arguably the best game of 2014. It’s harrowing and traumatic, exploring the survival situation of civilians who are left as casualties of war. Food and medical supplies are scarce, your team gets depressed easily, and scavenging for items is risky; it could get members of your team killed. Also, the seasons change and winter comes, making survival that little bit direr and making your party members unwell. This game is an indie masterpiece.

Transistor

Lovers of Bastion will adore Transistor. The story is magnificent, the artwork is gorgeous, the combat system is unique, and the soundtrack is perfect. You are on a quest for revenge against an elite sci-fi, dystopian force. It’s definitely worth playing.

The Banner Saga

Another beautifully animated game, The Banner Saga ends abruptly, but it has a great storyline that allows you some freedom in terms of your role-play choices. It’s another turn-based narrative, but The Banner Saga is Viking themed and oddly haunting. There is a dark threat, and settlements are fleeing to avoid it – will you be able to save everyone?

Walking Dead: Season 2

A Telltale game, The Walking Dead is big on its narrative choices, and your game will change drastically depending on what you choose to do. This is roleplaying at its finest, and it’s the sequel to the first Walking Dead game (go play this first, if you haven’t already). Season 2 is just as good as the first, although I think everyone misses Lee. You follow Clem’s path as she grows up, surrounded by murderous zombies, and equally threatening human survivors.
