Head for Kili at Christmas!

Increasingly, people are looking for alternative ways to spend Christmas Day away from the usual Turkey and stuffing, presents, TV repeats and generally gloomy UK weather.

Walks Worldwide has many trips around the world that coincide with the festive season, so you can wake up on 25 December far away from the commercial trappings of Christmas at home, for a Christmas Day you will never forget.

Here are just a few suggestions…

Christmas Day at Machu Picchu: 10 days from £2399 pp

Walks Worldwide incorporates an extra day of trekking along the Inca Trail which means a more relaxed itinerary, with more time to acclimatise before crossing the highest pass, avoiding the busiest camping sites and allowing more time to visit fascinating Inca ruins en route. The Classic Inca Trail is among the most famous of all the world's great treks. Travelling through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, visiting the most impressive fortress town of Ollantaytambo and trekking along the ancient paved Inca pathway, to finally arrive at Machu Picchu on Christmas Day. The trip departs on 20 December and costs from £2399 pp. This includes flights, all transportation, seven nights’ accommodation, most meals, camping equipment (except sleeping bag), Inca Trail permit, guides and porterage whilst on trek.

Christmas Day on the Perito Moreno Glacier: 19 days from £3599 pp

Visit Patagonia ‘the end of the earth’ on the 19-day Ultimate Patagonia Adventure trip. The itinerary provides a chance to hike in Chile and Argentina’s most famous national parks over Christmas including Torres del Paine and Los Glaciares. The itinerary also includes a full day at the mammoth Perito Moreno Glacier. Graded as ‘Demanding’, the guide trip departs on 17 December and costs from £3359 pp (2 sharing). This includes flights, all land transportation, 14 nights’ B&B plus some lunches (hotels/hosteria/camping) and the services of a tour leader.

Christmas Day on the Roof of Africa: 12 days from £3199 pp

Walks Worldwide offers a number of lesser-known and lesser-trodden paths to the summit of Kilimanjaro including the Shira Route. The group will arrive at the summit of Uhuru Peak, at 5895m, on Christmas Day. The Shira Route allows additional time to acclimatise that can make all the difference in attempting to reach the summit. It also has an element of wilderness, as you approach from the west and cross the impressive caldera of the Shira volcano. The group will trek beneath the spectacular hanging glacier of the Western Breach and the flanks of Kibo, with views of Mount Meru floating in the distance. The trip departs on 17 December and costs from £3199 pp. This includes flights, all transportation, nine nights’ accommodation, most meals, camping equipment and a tour leader/guide.

All of Walks Worldwide’s trips can be booked ‘land only’ for those who prefer to make their own flight arrangements.
